Any thoughts on the Model S refresh?

The interesting points for me are:

- steering wheel is in a yoke style, which I’m guessing precludes arm out the window style driving haha

- how do you select drive/reverse/park etc?

- Plaid + version has a new battery?, since the range is significantly improved over the Plaid and standard S

$280k for the Plaid+ with autopilot and some other fruit. I’d want to test drive with the steering wheel and gear selector before ordering one.

I saw a tweet with a trad steering wheel option also. Elon tweeted that the car decides automagically which way you want to go depending on various factors etc, or via touch screen
I think it looks very cool indeed!

I'm guessing the motors and controllers have had some upgrades in terms of efficiencies. The Plaid is surely going to be using the taller, more dense cells (4860?).

I like the inside. Was hoping for more from the outside. The steering wheel is almost certainly going to end up being changed for the standard one by default for most buyers.

I think Elon has been watching too many Knight Rider Re-runs,

Its also likely illegal in many jurisdictions anyway, (EU certainly)

Are you chaps suggesting that Tesla might change the steering wheel, or that they might offer a choice of yoke or circular? If I ordered today there isn’t an option to pick a different steering wheel, that I could find anyhow.

Plaid+ will have the new battery tech that was showcased at battery day last year (the 4680 pack). The non-Plaid+ also get a new pack design but it's still using the same 18650 cells as always (not the 2170 from the Model 3) but with better chemistry and a new arrangement to allow for better cooling so the Model S/X can do continuous launches without having to cooldown between runs. Both the S & X get the heatpump from the Model 3 & Y for better winter efficiency.

The interior takes a some inspiration from the Model 3, with the same screen orientation (although bigger), same vent design and the same door opening procedure, however it keeps the behind the wheel dash cluster. It's also got a much better Media Control Unit (MCU) that has 10 terraflops of processing power for gaming (similar to the PS5) - there is a screen in the back for rear passengers that can use this while the car is driving.
