I have a new car headset that has USB video.

There is mention of it supporting divx codecs on the box but no detailed information, I want to rip a couple bluray DVDs to a codec that will be readable by the head unit.

I haven't ripped DVDs for years.

Does anyone have any experience ripping videos for a fairly basic and probably quite simple covid? Avi file container? Not sure of codec thesedays, expecially something very generic.

If you want to encode videos for a lowest-common-denominator device, encode h264 video (main profile), AAC audio into a mp4 container. That will play on just about anything made in the last 15 years.

That said, ripping blu-rays wasn't particularly easy last time I checked unless you pay a decent chunk of change for proprietary software to do it. I would just download a pre-ripped version from a torrent.

I used to rip all my DVDs to AVI files many years ago. My usual tools were DVDDecrypter to rip the DVD to a .mpg file and VirtualDub to convert to an AVI file. I used to use the DivX codec, but later changed to using the even better freeware XviD codec. I believe that those freeware tools are all still available. PM me if you want more detailed help.
