Dad has bought himself an e-bike. It's his primary means of transport (not allowed to drive), and as such he cares about the security of it.

Obviously if someone wants to steal it, its just going to happen regardless of how big the lock is. And he wondered about GPS tracking.

I've had a hunt around, and the vast majority of devices seem to be "Vodafone only" 2G units. My understanding was that even VF 2G could be going away soon-ish? Or is that not an issue?

So to summarise, recommend a small GPS tracker suitable for an e-bike. Primary concerns are:

- Longevity of the device in terms of network support (so would assume that means a 3G radio or better)
- Some sort of easy to use cloud app I can show a 65 year old how to use
- I guess size is important too so that it can be concealed in some manner

Does he have an iPhone? If so sounds like a great use for an Apple AirTag.

Someone will steal the GPS device. Seriously get a lock. A big lock. It's an e-bike so he doesn't need to worry about the weight of it. If I spent $15K on a nice e-bike then I'd be using a motorcycle lock.

I use a big Oxford one for my normal push bikes. But I don't ride with it.

Couple of videos relating to AirTags and bikes. Note I haven’t watched the second one.

Definitely a good lock. But the airtag thing is feasible as well, maybe if it were hidden well.

This bloke had his bike nicked with an airtag on it, and while not perfect, it was pretty helpful in tracking it down.

Yep he will have a very good lock. I'll suggest the motorbike one too though.

AirTag does look good!! But not an option unfortunately as Android user.

I'll just add to the list:
- want it to connect directly to a mobile network
