Hi i have recently purchased a Mazda 3, which has the it seems quite common fault with the sticky dash board  in places...

have bought a dash mat to cover it but i'm wondering if there is a good product for cleaning it before putting the mat over it? or best to just cover it and not try clean it ( would this make it worse?)?

Thanks heaps

This came up as the first google to 'Mazda sticky dashboard'

https://news.mazdausa.com/2016-08-05-Mazda3-and-Mazda6-Warranty-Extension-Statement

How old is the car?

This was the second result:

(An Aussie product) - There are a few videos about it on youtube - Maybe worth a shot...

If fitting a dash mat, make sure it is clear of any dash mounted air bags.

Interesting! Our '06 Prado dash isn't sticky but it is cracked, so their filler looks like it might be helpful.

I've used the StickyDashFix on my Mazda6, does a pretty good job.

Although I would recommend when you apply, you do the entire dash, not just the affected areas, from my experience, the heat just ends up bringing the glue to the surface in the areas you don't apply it to (even if those areas were fine beforehand).

I have (had) the sticky dash/steering wheel/handbrake/consol problem in my Falcon. It's the breakdown of the plastic from prolonged exposure to sunlight and really shows up in very high humidity.

The two most popular remedies I could find were Citrus based cleaners and IPA. I did half of my consol with each and so far (six months later) niether have returned to the sticky state. The IPA required less elbow grease.

Would you recommend a hazy, west coast, east coast, IPA and would an imperial take it off twice as fast?

I would imagine you wouldn't want to get pulled over too soon after doing it.

Best use any good APA for USA manufactured vehicles.
