nathan: my 2c, too good to be true = a pricing mistake

even at three times the price that tablet would be cheap (and below cost)

That is the problem, everything in NZ is always on sale, and if it's not then it will be in a weeks time.
You just never know if the price is correct or not, like the LG watch from WHS, RRP of $4xx sold for $130, at the time I was thinking it was a pricing mistake as well.
Even JBHIFI had a great sale at xmas where a z3 compact was under $500

It is not uncommon for stores to have a lost leader to get people in etc, I have seen a number of specials online and way under RRP then gone into the store to get it.

If this was a pricing mistake they should be emailing people telling them that, refund or counter offer with what they can sell it for.

Not just cancel orders without an email or contact

The problem is that this pricing error came exactly when they had banners and ads everywhere saying "CRAZY DEALS" so no one could assume it was an error.

Cancelling the orders without even an email shows how bad comms these companies practice.

And that's it. I am more pee'd that there was no "sorry we got it wrong" email then the order being cancelled.

I sent them an email saying that we will take action against them, citing the fair trading act. Especially since people were able to go in store and buy them at this price. I encourage everyone to do the same.

100% agree. This does not reflect well on JBHiFi.

Assuming my order for 1 is cancelled without comms before or after I will have a lower opinion off them. Basically this is not good PR in fact the opposite.

Imagine if this was advertised on TV ?!

Something needs to change I can see the possibly of devious web retailers [not JB] using the ability to cancel as a way to over market themselves

NB: I wonder if the variation in cancelled orders is due to the various banks different processes and time frames ?

Were they? The few posts I saw about going in store mentioned that the in-store price was hundreds of dollars higher.

One guy said his mate when in and got 2 for that price.
