maxeon: I might have a few 16tb and 20tb that I don't need and can pass it on at cost to someone here. They are in transit.
I will take a couple of 16TBs if available. TIA.

Some serious penny-pinching there. Surely, the only people buying 1TB hard drives these days are individuals of questionable character who provide even more questionable 'upgrades' to people with minimal computer knowledge?
EDIT: My drives have been released from Customs, so I expect them here on Monday... just enough time to buy a new NAS.

Delivered.
Got my 2 drives today from Aramex along with a trademe purchase and a long overdue waiting on customs clearance amazon US parcel. Not left in the clearly labeled place but at least not left in the mailbox like I have had an external drive in its stock seagate box with a label on it left before.
First one is in the nas replacing a dead 2TB and waiting for it to sync up, then I will swap out the still working 2TB one that has near a decade of power on time on it out.
Anyone able to post some images of the packaging please?
I have bought seagate before from amazon and it came as a "naked" drive in a shipping box with limited packaging - 4 days later drive failed.
Have been only buying Toshiba from Amazon as they come in a bubble sleave within a box, which is then in a shipping box with packaging.

Drives are packaged inside sealed cardboard boxes with Seagate markings.

and inside the carton is cardboard packaging holding them in place, and they are inside an anti static bag.
Not off to a good start. Two of my new drives are non-functional out of the box. There was no sign of damage in transit.
Placed all four drives in a new Synology NAS and only two came online. Testing on a PC, one drive spins up and has a faint click (stops after a while - I assume the drive just gives up trying), and the other has a very faint pulse, suggesting it's not spinning up.
Looks like I can do the RMA with Seagate directly, but it wants me to ship the drive to Hong Kong.
Do you have 3volt pin issue?

I wouldn't buy 1TBs but I can see how it may be an option for a simple NAS for someone starting out or on a budget. You do wonder why Seagate has it as an option at all.

Legacy systems - lots of systems of age don't need or cant detect bigger drivers, so 1TB is still very much feasible.

As far as I am aware, that is only an issue with shucked Western Digital drives. The 3.3v pin should prevent the drive from spinning up. In this case, one is spinning and the other appears to be trying to.
