After visiting a number of retailers all offering this phone at $799, and with no wiggle room on the price, I was pleasantly surprised to see a significant discount offered by DSE Porirua.

No only was the price better, the customer service was top notch. This was one of those rare occasions where the sales experience was so good, I will actually write about it.

Jermaine was quite out there with his sales style - lots of energy (I suspect the monster energy drink may have helped), and totally clued up on this phone, and phone plans.

As a bonus to the cheaper handset, we also got a free TV thrown in as a promotion that DSE is running.

If you are in the market for a Huawei P8, and are in the Wellington region, I highly recommend you pop out to DSE at Porirua.
Say Carole sent you, take a can of monster energy drink, sit back, and enjoy the sales experience.

Now the real question did you get your bonus tv

currently on their website

"BONUS DSE 23.5" HD LED LCD TV valued at $249 Offer ends today!"

This could be why they could move in price.

Probably help if you actually tell people the price you got it for so they know it is a good deal or not ...... :)

Yes some reviews say it's a bit slow plus the battery is only 2600.

I have a Nexus 5, and the wife's Huawei P8 seems to do everything slightly better. At the store there really was no noticeable difference between all of the players top end phones doing standard tasks. I suspect the differences only show themselves when benchmarking gets done.

As pointed out the battery is 2680mAh which isn't too bad (Galaxy S6 is 2550 mAh). She charged the phone on Saturday, and it's still going on Monday morning. The phone was used for some browsing and calls over the weekend, games on the train this morning, so seems pretty good to me. Her iphone 4S needed charging daily with the same usage.

Interestingly, the dual sim functionality appears to have been removed for the models sold in NZ. Bit of a shame, as this was a really nice to have feature when travelling.

Yes some reviews say it's a bit slow plus the battery is only 2600.

This was my impression, it just lacked that snappy feeling you expect from a $800 phone, that and the pull down menu shortcuts was some minimalist icon looking affair which left me questioning how fiddled other aspects of the UI would be, it dredged up memories of my old Huawei X5

It is pretty similar to a few other Huawei devices like the Honor 6, Honor 7 etc. The phone has a more premium build though. Emui is a total rewrite of Android. If you prefer stock or close to stock android, EMUI won't come close. It is closer to iPhone in look with thin fonts and flat icons and no app drawer. From following the development of CyanogenMod on the Honor 6, Huawei has a bad habit of hiding binaries in odd places so it becomes very difficult to make a good source build. Will be interesting to see if a dev community springs up round the P8. If it shares its internals with the upcoming Huawei Nexus, it will likely benefit from that.
I find the latest Huawei phones is smooth but not fast. They do work well though if you like the way they are by default.
