Mini Me has the automatic flow control function which is better than the low end full manual Piccolini.

The problem is that Dolce Gusto line has no 3rd party capsule available as now, not like Nespresso line. But the official capsule price is not too bad, 0.63 for espresso and 1.26 for milk coffee.

What about water tank capacity? The picolini is too small for 2 mugs of hot chocolate which is all I really use it for.

Looking at their product pages, the mini me has slightly bigger tank at 0.8 compared to 0.6 of piccolo.

Hmmmm tempting. The number if times I've over filled with one of the capsules is too many. Takes so long get distracted and then it's oops too much of the milk gone in now.

Just bought one. As a coffee novice I'm pretty happy with the espresso taste and convenience. :D

Bought mine several months ago at New World $49.99 special. Already have a full bells and whistles coffee maker, trouble is it takes 10 minutes to get it all set up and going. With these new capsules machines I can have a mug of coffee in 2 minutes.

Yes you are restricted to that machines capsules only, for the time being, but I spoke to a sales rep at my local supermarket and she said that they will eventually open up the market like they did for the Nespresso. Its a copy-right thing she said.

The one thing I do not like about any of these capsules is when they add the simulated milk to the capsule or in a separate capsule - it tastes like UHT milk which I have always found to be foul-terrible-horrible-disgusting-YUK. Most of the coffee forums and reviews all state the same thing and I pointed this out to that sales rep who said she would pass that along.

The other down side and this may only apply to where I live, Tauranga, and that is the small range stocked in each of the supermarkets stores. To get the full range of have to go around not only the various supermarkets (NewWorld, CountDown and The WareHouse) but to each of supermarket stores within my area due to store size therefore shelf space.

Then there is the difference in the varitity of flavours available here and Australia (16/15) compared to the USA (18) and wow France (36). Check out the NZ website. Also you can only buy some of the varieties in-store but if you want the full range you have to purchase on-line.

You can purchase a Dolce Gusto Reusable Pod from a third party at NZ$14.99. Fill with your own favourite coffee. Apparently good for 100 reuses. Would be interested to hear from anyone who is uses these.

Thats my thoughts on this.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

49.99 was a killer price! I do hope Dolce Gusto will soon release the restriction for 3rd party pods. Probably not for price as they probably wont beat the current 0.67 each price by much while keep good quality, but for more choice.

I agree with you. The twin milk-coffee pods are somehow pointless. I personally would not like to pay the premium price for the milk powder. Also please be noted that the Cafe Au Lait and MOCHA are INSTANT COFFEE inside, not roast and grind. Those 2 should be avoided as well if ask me.

That being said, we still have 7 coffee options available in the NZ market, 2 of which being online exclusive, the rest can be found in Pakn Save, Foodtown etc. That is not too bad assuming their quality is around the middle-high class of pods coffee world. I haven't tried them all so far, but quite like the Americano and Espresso Intenso. The price is ok for a pod coffee, actually they are on par with the 3rd party Nespresso pods.

As for the reusable pod, I think that is POINTLESS unless you really want to try a different bean. The cost is 20.50 each shipped, claimed at least 50 times life as per trademe listing. As always, I would say maybe 30 times if you are lucky and if that red pod actually does work. So it will cost 0.68 for each use, that's already MORE expensive than a new Dolce Gusto pod. So lets back up and say it will last for 70 times, that works out maybe 0.30 for each use. Considering a bag of decent quality bean will cost you maybe 0.20-0.40 per 10 gram, I really cannot work out the math for the reusable pod to be cost effective if at all. And that even doesn't consider the added hassle, grinder tool cost, wasted time, wasted bean(for a low volume user like me). :D

Not really. $49.99 + $x + $x + $x + $x + $x + $x + $x + $x etc etc etc (over many years for the captured capsule market) = a very profitable return for the manufacturer.

Right, but as long as it can achieve somehow a balance between cost/quality/convenience, it is a good price to pay.

Also if the machine only cost 49 or 75, one can easily choose to give up without wasting too much investment. :D

Agree, these are the two best out of the bunch I have tried so far and Ristretto isn't to bad either. They have however released a new 5 strength coffee called Ristretto Ardenza. Have yet to try the 'Lungo' or the 'Espresso' can not find them in any stores.

Interesting, did not know that.

I tend to like a very strong milky latte style coffee, therefore I fill my mug to ⅓ milk, heat in the microwave for 1 min (1100 watt) then dial up 6 for the water.

My problem with these machines is the huge environmental impact they have, so many overpriced plastic capsules being thrown away (they cannot be recycled due to the combination of metal and plastic they are made of). Just food for thought. I do like the sound of reusable pots though.

FFFFF, birkenhead new world doesn't take paywave, so or course its the one time I dont have my wallet on me. Back home and back there and they are out of the holders too. But they will call me when they have them in - Tui moment I expect.
