Seriously I wonder with PB. I do stay loyal to them when I can but their sales are normal prices usually. 10% of the majority of this notebook sale. Whoopee !

That $10k MSI Science workstation is a beast though. And the Asus Zephyrus is the best "all round" gaming notebook in the world imo due to its portability yet strength and still retains more power than any current game needs.

After speaking to Xotic PC in US, I was going to import a Gigabyte Aero due to their outstanding battery life.

Now when I see PBtech has a sale on it, I think WOOT.

$50 off, I kid you not, on a $3k machine

I guess the margins on laptops are relatively small anyway, but I know what you mean. They do seem to be the Briscoes of the computer world ;-)

Yes can be, like Apple or MS, they let sellers have very little input on sale price, MS because they cant afford to undercut their OEMs who buy their Software, and Apple, well because they are greedy and their products havnt changed in a decade. :-).

But other brands, Im not so convinced. I can import a notebook and their be $700 difference after all the costs of importing. So they retailer has already had their cut. So its literally why are we paying in NZ SOOOO much more for notebooks, my only guess is quantity of sales. But it also tells me their is HUGE margin.

Its not just PBtech, its all NZ dealers.

What I was laughing at about PB is their sales are never really sales, I can walk into another store and ask for a better price and get more than $50 off a notebook :-)

Dell sales are classic for this, very easy to negotiate price.

If they were the Briscoes for PCs, they would have that laptop at $6k all week and reduce it BY 50% YOU'LLL NEVER FIND BETTER every second weekend of the year.

lol

I was shocked when I got back to NZ, that Briscoes stuff would be illegal in many European countries, here for some reason nobody really enforces the "misleading and deceiving" under the CGA for that kind of "sale"

Typically ignore PB tech sales for that reason, unless someone somewhere points out there is a bargain to be had

Almost... it would be $12,000 all week, then 50% off down to $6,000... now it's a bargain ;-)

I recently bought some voda SIM cards from PB on a special. And they don't work! Can't be bothered to ask for a refund of my $20. I know from my previous experience they would not make it easy. Not buying anything from them in the near future. Thanks.

I have noticed with at least one  brand of electrical goods being sold in NZ, that the retailer is solely an agent for the brand, so has no say on the prices at all. So the retailer will display the RRP provided by the brand, and any discounts are provided by the brand itself at regular intervals. Guess the retailer gets a commission from the sale. IMO it is not very good for competition though.

Even if something appears to be a good deal, due diligence definitely required based on past experience. Their ‘sale’ pricing is often not all it’s cracked up to be or worse blatantly misleading

This sale is a sick joke.

Some of the crappy machines have better discounts, but only because they are not even worth getting for free.

I spotted 2 laptops that were worth buying, but only 10% discount at that.

I looked at the sale, as I am in the market for a new laptop (mine died).

The prices were pretty high, more than I have seen similar machines on sale for at "regular" prices in places like Noel Leeming and JB HiFi recently.

As a supposedly special-deals laptop sale, it left me distinctly underwhelmed.

Won't NL match the price anyway, and the WHS apparently beats the price by 5% on most things.

I'm not convinced there's no margin in laptops here.

I bought a new laptop a few months for $1600. To this day the model below is regularly advertised "on sale" for $2400. That same model was on sale 1-2 weeks before I bought mine for $1650 too. Absolute rip off.
