Posted over at Choice Cheapies by Creality themselves it looks like.

https://www.creality3dofficial.com/collections/ender-series/products/creality-ender-3-pro-3d-printer?variant=16132317741105

User WellyDeal then posted that the code ' E5XTD-10' for 10% off drops it down to $188.10 USD / NZD $298

I'll tell you when mine gets here lol.

From what I've read, these are pretty damned good for the price point. That being said, I've also read that most people then buy (or print) a whole bunch of upgrades for them.

Yes it can print with ABS.

I also ordered one. Last time I tried printing with my geriatric ultimaker, it gave me grief again and everyone is like "level your bed" clean your extruder blah blah which I have done all of that. So hopefully something newer will be better, and its under 10% of what I paid for the ultimaker so not as much of a disappointment when it only prints spaghetti.

Lias:

Yes it can print with ABS.

From what I've experienced printing with ABS is incredibly difficult. I personally print with PLA+ and PETG and never had any problems with my Ender 3 V2.

A couple of tips:
1) Order yourself some Super Lube PTFE grease: https://www.hobbiesplus.co.nz/super-lube-ptfe-grease-synco-21010-p-1047.html
2) Look at investing in a BLTouch (ensure it is genuine and not a knock-off).
3) Octoprint!

I personally use the CHEP profiles with Octoprint: https://www.chepclub.com/cura-profiles.html and find that I get excellent prints.

Also order some PLA+ ahead of time: https://www.bits4bots.co.nz/ - the eSun stuff is the best stuff I've printed with. Keep your filament dry too.

Thanks for the tips @michaelmurfy

I just bought one from Element14 with a 15% discount so was a bit gutted to see this deal. What is the lube for? Is it for the wheels?

I wonder if bits4bots are running down their stock. There is very limited stock in their online shop.

Kiwi 3D's PLA+ is also very good and available locally.

The Creality filament from the Creality store is also very good, but limited colours and slow(er) delivery.

You need to lube the Z axis lead screw.

My top tips would be a feeler gauge and glass bed. Both of those I found more useful than a BLTouch. And spending the first couple of weeks having it printing upgrades for itself.

A filament dry box is easy and cheap; well worthwhile.

Yes - the lube is for the Z Axes Screw. I spent literally weeks diagnosing an issue with my 3D printer and it turned out all that was needed was a little of Z Axes care. It is good to have some on hand.

I’ve used the Kiwi 3D stuff too and it is very good - The other place I buy from is https://marvle3d.co.nz/ for PLA+. On a glass bed this prints at 215*C with a ~60*C bed temperature.

Also don’t forget to update the printers firmware when you get it!

This thread is turning into a 3d printing class. At least there are no moderators active in the thread.... hehe.

@michaelmurfy - Where did you get your glass bed from? Which firmware do you use? So many questions....

Today is Octoprint day.

I got the official Creality glass bed from Creality direct. The official Creality one has a nice surface. Prints just pop off if you are patient enough to let them cool down properly. But you just attach it with bulldog clips anyway so any tempered glass bed of the right size would be fine. Kiwi3D (one of my new favourite stores) stocks it locally if you can't wait for international shipping.

Ooh, another tip would be buying some larger nozzle sizes. I really like printing at 0.4 layers with a 0.6 nozzle. If you don't care about the lines (i.e. for practical things) it is way faster and can be a bit stronger.

Creality printers are a great way of getting in to the 3D printing hobby, but it is definitely a hobby. You will spend a lot of time prodding, tinkering and tuning to get something just so. It is a lot of fun, especially if you go for practical things and upgrades rather than 57 low poly pokemon and a family of calibration cats (though I have both of those too). You know you're a fully fledged maker when you then use your miracle home fabrication unit to bootstrap yourself in to a bigger miracle home fabrication unit.

If you're octoprinting (especially with a Pi cam or web cam), @michaelmurfy put me on to SD high endurance cards. I've had Octoprint chew through a few normal SD cards and the high endurance option seems to be a winner.

Yeah. SD Cards and high read/write are a drama alright. I think that is most of the undiagnosed problems that happen with Home Assistant on the Pi as well.

Would 3D printers be any good for re-creating missing pieces from jigsaw puzzles?

Even just the shape if not the picture part.

Yep, that would be straightforward enough - obviously not the picture bit. Little Miss MDF is very keen on kitsets and several missing bits have been replaced with 3d printed parts.

You would take a photo of the puzzle with the missing piece, trace the bitmap to a vector, then calibrate for size and print. Some small sanding or filing would probably be necessary to get the edges smooth and fitting snug, but wouldn't be substantial.

In my mind 3D printing is as magical and mysterious as mechanised flight.

However, I have many missing jigsaw pieces so maybe learning 3D printing can be my 2021 goal.

Would those 3D spaghetti printers be ok?
