Very tough day at the office for Lawson. However, can't imagine Verstappen is running the new floor and front wing because it is slower. Also wondering if Liam's car is the same one to have the water pump issue in Bahrain. A few mechanical issues so far this year that certainly haven't helped the Kiwi driver's cause.

Great lap from Tsunoda with quite a chunk of assistance from Norris with the tow. Still, had to be in Q3 to do the time to begin with so more power to him.

The McLarens showing they're worth the favourites tag so far. Horner just been on F1TV saying you can't judge Lawson on what's happened so far this weekend, and reminding the nay-sayers that he was right with Tsunoda last season in the same machinery.

No doubt Lawson will be expected to hold up the McLarens in the race if he finds himself circulating at the back tomorrow, perhaps a Perez sidepod special for Norris? Hoping for a wet race as that will mix things up without doubt.

Lawson needs to be given the same equipment first and foremost though, have a new appreciation for how Sargeant must have felt early doors last season.

Liam didnt have the same spec?

Hopefully he will move through the pack somewhat

Cloudy. Warm morning, followed by a cool and windy change during the late morning. Very high chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h shifting southwesterly 25 to 40 km/h in the late morning and early afternoon.

The quali could have a range of dry wings to help quali and pray ran isnt that bad. Or wet wings and suffer in quali but get payback in the race.I'll watch post quali now for any of that news.

Back to Liam, I will cut him slack the first few races to get up to speed.

I have recently signed up for the standard version of F1TV via Apple TV. I love it and it looks great on our TVs. I’m guessing this standard version is 1080p - now I’m tossing-up whether it’s worth paying another $50 for the 4K version. I’m not interested in the few other features that come with the upgrade.

Would welcome any thoughts or comments.

Just noticed that the GP and pre race is free on Sky Open, the FTA Sky channel. Not sure if thats a Liam thing or a Down Under thing, but good to see.

Liam didnt have the same spec?

By all accounts Lawson is still running the old 'Bahrain-spec' front wing and floor while Verstappen's car has the newer improved iterations of these parts after the originals were found wanting.

As to why this should be the case, you can only speculate. Most probably they didn't have time to manufacture a second set for Liam's car. A more cynical person than myself might alternatively suggest that they're still not sure about the aero and have decided to continue A-B testing at the expense of Liam's race weekend.

You might also wonder where all the effort was put overnight between Friday and Saturday. Verstappen was far more competitive on Saturday while Lawson had a mechanical issue which stuffed his FP3 and ability to get some sorely needed practice before Qualification. Compounding the fact he got relatively little running compared to the competition in Bahrain.

I'm also curious about VCARB's Jodie Egginton being called back to the mothership just prior to everyone seeing a pretty rapid car from the junior team debut at Albert Park. Just a coincidence or is the shine going off Pierre Wache and his direction of travel?

Anyway, still have a lot of confidence in Lawson to shake this off and get his campaign on the right path. Hopefully he can make some good passes this afternoon and work his way into the points. He'll be pleased to have his Mum and Dad there to support him. Worst comes to the worst he'll just have to 'flush the dunny' and work hard on getting things right in China.

It's Sky NZ thing, they announced the Aussie GP would be shown FTA when they took over the rights from Spark Sport.

P2 was faultless yesterday on ATV4K. P3 has been so so today, often drops back to a lower res and sometimes jitters. I’ve restarted the app and seems to be better.

I leave the stream running, it starts slightly pixelated and then hits the 4K HDR. Exiting is likely removing the cache buffer.

Ensure that Match Range and FrameRate is on\enabled in the Apple Video and Audio setting.

Sitting 3m from a 55” and 2.5m from a 65”. So for the latter TV, at least, the 4K version might be worth it.

I know little about this so resorted to ChatGPT and was told: about 1.5 - 2.0x the diagonal measurement of the screen is often regarded as a max viewing distance for 4K to be noticeable. If that’s correct, I guess I’m not really out of bounds for either TV.

Apart from this, I am also interested in any other comments and experiences people may have had with the higher-res version. (Thanks @Shindig).

Really impressed with Kimi. As a Mercedes fan, I hope it rains every race! The McLaren is >0.5 seconds quicker.

Looking back David Coulthard binned it in ‘95 at Monza formation lap.

Melbourne today was an exciting race but a rude introduction for most of the rookies.

safety wise I’d probably be asking questions of the white lines in the rain.  It really was like Russian roulette at times there.

Lewis will take some time to build a relationship with his new race engineer.

Well done McLaren but team orders already at times again look like they’ll trip themselves up.

Lando looking a lot stronger mentally, with pole converted to a solid start and commanding race.

Lawson just simply one to forget.
Max in a team of one again this year to start with; hope that improves.

Lance Stroll did in Brazil last year (went off and beached himself in gravel). Actually was the reason why they improved the aborted start procedures for this year, because Lando Norris and a lot of others got the signals confused.

Hadjar has a few more things in his favour for brushing it off (no other sessions in wet; first race; street track with different paints used which makes the surface more slippery), was great to see Anthony Hamilton give him a pep talk as he walked through the paddock.

Kimi was impressive. McLaren still give a. Run for their money by Max when he pushes.
Williams looking good. Ferrari not too bad.

Yuki looking like he did deserve the 2nd Red Bull seat at this stage.

Kimi's penalty was reversed, so he and Albon have swapped places to how they crossed the line (i.e.
