Lol nope. Im actually thinking instead of Glenn Phillips replacing Nicholls, perhaps its time to think replacing Munro, all 3 open for Auckland, Guptill, Munro, Phillips. 26avg just isnt good enough at 40 games. Hes a good t20 player but for some reason hes struggling at international ODI level.

Guptill has the prettiest straight drive in the game, either along the ground or lofted for 6 like a driver off the tee. Hes the key for me, if he can get one of his big quickish tonnes we have a chance.

He is a good explosive player. He reminds me a lot of Corey Anderson, when he is in he will punish, but he misses out a lot. Munroe had a great early season in both forms, he just hasnt fired since Aus/England..

Same as Colin De Gron Holme. Actually, you could say half our team, hasnt been the same since the T20s started. Guptil averaged 60 in the t20s now look at him.

Corey Anderson is still sniffing around, but I do feel its our top 5 thats the problem. None of them outside Taylor who has missed 3 games, are consistently delivering.

Im a big Munro fan. I just think hes like Southee, a better batsman that he delivers, why he played that ball bouncing cross batted is not what a player of his ability does.

Well to be fair Engs opening bowlers are very good, but we better start smashing it between 20 and 40 overs or we will struggle to make 250 which Eng will make in 40 overs on this pitch.

Oh dear. Either its all on Guptill now or the game is over already. Boy Chapman is under pressure here, missing Taylor BIG time.

Well well well Latham huh, no better way to get a guy in form that to put him in an impossible situation haha.

Lets hope he doesnt give another 2 catches this innings because I feels his 9 lives are up. Its a good move though because the spinners will come on soon and he likes the spinners.

Bingo. Still think Latham is very very suspect, he got lucky twice and scored average scores otherwise hes been terrible at home, which his 20avg shows.

So, Guptill is it and needs support until the end to make 280ish, which is a formality really. ugggh, hate this feeling.

But you never know, Sodhi tore through their top order and if that starts earlier this game 280 might be enough.

Edit: OMG Chapman, our best batsman this season domestically looks like he doesnt even belong in our team.

NZ cricket is in big trouble.

Edit: bahaha SMithy spot on, why they didnt look at George Worker which I through in the pot 3 games ago is bizarre. Just too much pressure to expect Chapman after failing at his natural game to walk in at that position.

Ok so NZ needs some MAJOR work to get back to the top.

CDGH will retire soon (and has failed since Pak tour where he saved us twice), Taylor will retire in next year or 2, Nicholls, Southee in 4 years or so, we are an aging team left over from the #1 team we had under Mcullum and Shane Bonds bowling coaching when Southee and Boult were fast and swinging it.

We have some positives in Santner proving he does have the guts to play his shots when we need him, and Sodhi has stepped up and not worrying about his run rate and accepting wickets at leg spin cost runs, he got rid of the top order last match and hopefully today as well but much sooner. Williamson will be round for some time. Guptill will keep delivering. Perhaps Phillips does need to replace Munro, so we can blood Phillips, with opening being his position.

Its the Taylor retiring Im most worried about and we need another high strike rate batsman in the middle order, I would leave Latham for tests.

So many problems, hard to find the answers. Larsen has a VERY tough job ahead of him over he next couple of years.

Back to this game. If Southee and Boult can get 3 early wickets and Sodhi gets another 4 quality wickets, we have a chance with something around 230, its just SOOOO unlikely. But they have to bowl and field ultra agressively. They cant defend 230, they have to bowl them out.

Brilliant Santner.

Now my only issue is hes dropped catches after make 40-50 that have cost us 70 odd, so hes in the negative. Hopefully this match he doesnt drop any and it doesnt mask a wonderful performance.

We won two matches but did we? On the scorecard we did, but on merit we were thrashed every one of these 5 games. Every game was the same, 3 people scored the vast majority of the runs, except game 4 where they didnt hold the bat. So, to win we need a century and two others to contribute very well, and a collapse from the other side. Then we may just sneak a lucky win or a close loss. If that doesnt happen, we lost in the 38th and 32nd overs

You cant keep blaming dropped catches, we are poor. Imagine of Sanyner hadn't't found his batting mojo and scored 4, 8 and 18? Imagine of Latham did what he usually does, nothing. Imagine if Taylor got a century every now and then and not twice in a few matches? We would struggle to compete half an innings.

Its a mental issue, pure and simple. When you watch 5 games and the same thing happens, then either most players belong in a mid table first class team, or they have the wrong mental attitude. That leads to poor form, bad decisions, and so on.

Latham has the third most ODI runs for NZ in the last 12 months at an average of 42 and had three scores over 70 in this series. He did exactly what he normally does in this series, scores reasonably consistently, especially for a keeper batting number 5.

England are the best one day side in the world at the moment and we came within 1 ball of winning a series against them. Saying we were thrashed in all the games is just a bit silly. You could conversely say England we thrashed in 4 of the games but only won 2.

In any innings it is usually 3 players that score the bulk of the runs. Williamson hasn't been in great nick, which happens. Guptill still isn't really back to his best after his injury issues. We haven't had a great summer but we have played ok. Not great but ok. Cricket is a game you can only judge over a reasonable period of time as all players have form slumps, it just isn't possible for every player to be great in every game or series.

I think we did very well in this series considering the talent we have, but Eng arent the best in the world, and it is our ex captain that has them playing the way they are, which is something I think we need to think about in whiteball cricket.

Latham had an amazing sub continent tour, averaging 45ish. He averages 20 at home (well prior to this series, prob 23ish now). He contributed twice this series? And lets not forget he was dropped 3 times in his first score, then twice his next innings, I called it by saying now lets just hope Lathams luck hasnt run out and he doesnt get caught, which he did 2 balls later.

We know he prefers spin which is why he did so well 2017 in sub continent, but as a batsman he must know how to handle pace, so is it simply a mental thing.....

I think Nas summed it up in commentary, our batting looks brittle. Our 5th and 6th batsmen should be averaging more than 30, especially when one is averaging 20 at home.

The game has changed. Its not just Eng. Eng are 3rd, just ahead of us. They are fortunate to have some of the best ODI batsmen in the world and a team that bats to #10 legitimately where we bat to 6 on our good days.

And to think only FOUR of their ODI team play in the Test team, yet only 2 of ours depart and they are our openers and 3rd best batsman. I think now is the time to give Guptill another go, but down the line. Swap Latham around with Guptill.

Watling hopefully gets picked and ads stability where we lack it in the ODIs, Wagner will keep giving 150%.

I think we have a better chance in the tests.

It could be just our last 10 years has been our best since the 80s given our talent pool.

But I do think we need to do things now like blood our top scoring young talent. Ferguson is a keeper, Chapman shows promise, Glenn Phillips, George Worker should have been flewn into the last match, we have Santner and Sodhi, Williamson is only half way through his career, so its not all doom and gloom.

Woops can't read. Only two scores but still 4th in the aggregates/averages for NZ. Mid thirties batting 5 is OK but bigger problem was Guptill and Munro. When your openers average 22 and 11 with one 50 between them you don't win many series.

I have no idea why you'd want to see Guptill in the test series. He's not in form and he's consistently failed in test cricket. He has significant technical problems which have been consistently found out in red ball cricket where the ball swings for 40 overs. He's one of our best one day batsmen but has never found his game and that ship looks to have sailed.

No, I'm not dramatic on this. We have a lot of batting talent, and it has been woeful. When every game only 3 front up, thats a big problem. Every game, bar one, where they werent needed. We cant expect a century every game and big plays by two others, so the rest can all fail, that is what has been happening. When we dont get that we lose in the 38th and 32nd over, that is very poor. In the forked when things arent going ell we are quiet. No noise, no banter, we just stand there, thats not professional and its not focused. If we played to our ability for the 11 on the field, then the result we get is on its merit. But the merit on these 5 games rested with 3 batsmen. Where are the others? While we know that not everyone will get a score, some will get a bigger score, so overall, the team batting average is the target, but its left to 3 batters to do all the heavy lifting. If you look at each game it was the same. Id call 38th and 32nd over losses a thrashing. Also when we get a century and two other very nice scores and they collapse and we just win, thats luck, and a thrashing in disguise.

All I want is where the whole team puts on a full professional effort. I dont care if a Taylor gets a duck on any given day. Or anyone else. But when we NEED a century and two other out of the box efforts, so that everyone else can fail, thats poor. We handicap ourselves. So yes, we have clearly underperformed in all 5 games.

As Hussain said we are brittle.
