wratterus:

Do you really still get the constructors point for fastest lap if you are out of the top 10? That's dumb...

No you don't get the point if you are outside the 10 top, you just prevent the other team from getting the point.

I know the driver doesn't get the point - @mudguard said you do get the constructors point.

Looks like I misheard. Bottas merely deprived Red Bull of the point. Does seem a bit of an anomaly though.

Lewis Hamilton DQ'ed from Sprint Race. Illegal DRS slow gap

EDIT

DQ from Quali so starts Sprint at the back of the grid

Spicy drama. The F1 Reddit has been going off. Great fun. The best comment was a tweet saying the stewards have taken so long to decide that Lando is now a year older that when the incident happened. Max fined 50k seems like a reasonable penalty without setting a crazy precedent.

Predictable race. Bottas did very well although clean air was a huge help for his tyres. Perez was disappointing.

Yeah a bit dull at the front. Hamilton was brisk but can't see that happening again on full fuel during the race. DRS does make a bit of a mockery of things when there is a big power imbalance. I guess if they ever went reverse grid (which they won't) you wouldn't have DRS.

He'll be brisk tomorrow too, Mercedes has the most BHP, and a new engine, so he will go far. Bottas was excellent the more I thought about it. Fastest speed trap car, in front where Mercedes shines, but he drove the perfect race, do just enough to stay in front, avoid hotlaps to preserve the softs. A professional drive. Lewis should fine it harder when other fast cars will be chasing points, not a 6th place or 10th place on the grid.

Hamilton sithed through the pack today, suspect he'll do the same to the top order tomorrow.

Going to call the end result:

P1 Ham
P2 Max
P3 Bottas
P4 Perez

All those destructive/limit engine testing done on Bottas's car was surely to understand just how much they can reliably wring out of Lewis's last engine to try win him the title. I'm surprised RB didn't take a penalty this week too to make it a zero sum game.
