Found this on Redit and thought this was quite interesting, tells me there could be a few things going on here:

The Merc is highly optimised for running out front with clean air
It's actually just really damn close (map from last race looks very similar)
Teams are managing their tyres and not able to push as hard as they want
Mazepin has not yet found the accelerator.

apparently he does that when he feels bored. must be bored from the VSC.

are you sure the chart is correct though - on the race live screen it said vestappen fastest lap every lap for the best of the last 10 laps, but this chart says hamilton is faster

i think in hindsight RB should have given max a new engine in Brazil. still can't get over the silverstone shunt and then the bottas bowling ball strategy.

anyway moving forwards - give Gasly Tsunoda and Perez new engine in each of the last 2 races. max out the engine to last one race. block all the cars and let max through ... and let Tsunoda do his thing ...

if do nothing that means LH wins title no 8. since he's already knighted maybe he will get a royal title for this.

Just imagine the pissing and moaning if this had been a certain German driver in a certain red car instead of ARE LEWIS.

i think RB will be doing all sorts of simulation to see if taking a new engine can get them P2 in the next race. if they can get P2 with a new engine they will take a new engine. doing nothing means losing everything. if they take new engine with max they should give the other 3 cars new engines too.

Tricky. No issue going back 5 spots, but that will just mean after a few laps Max will be running second, Merc runs well in clean air, race over. I'd run a low enough wing to fix the speed trap issue on both cars.

Have to wonder what Hamilton has to do to get a penalty. Even the running Verstappen off the road was a warning about a warning.

Waiting on the Telemetry and what the Stewarts say - but it will blow up on Social Media because of the Max fans but Max could get DSQ.

You don't what he did in the middle of track 100m from your normal marker and not even make an attempt to move over.

This was pure dangerous driving and even Max's engineer couldn't understand what he did.
