Ok just saw this page maybe I need to check Tunnel bear isn't throttling some how. I will have a play tonight since I can replay any of the Winton round to see if I can get better resolution using a different service. Any suggestions on a VPN to try?

Cheers

I used the v8 live stream earlier in the year with a paid vpn. ( sorry cant remember who)
I found the picture quality changed quite a bit depending on which server I was using.
I started off in the USA (trying for shortest distance) and ended up somewhere in Europe to get the best picture (which looked ok on the 46" LCD)

A free vpn won't give you enough bandwidth for good quality streaming, You will need to pay for that.

Here is a good site that lists & has review's on vpn's  http://www.bestvpnservice.com/
If I was going to try again I would look for one with a Aussie server

So it looks as though iSky is getting locked down, so might not be an option (to leach off friends' accounts); therefore the paid VPN service, and a subscription to the V8 Stream looks to be the best way (for those not wanting to line Sky's pockets)....so about $15 for VPN, about $20 for V8 Stream, and about $5 for bandwidth - why does Sky not just offer pay per view over their iSky services for stuff like this?
Assuming it wasn't more than about $40, I would have thought people would be lining up!
Talk about making it difficult.

The feeds have still been showing up on D2 by the looks. Sometimes in 576i, sometimes 4:2:2 (needing a HD receiver capable of it) but still there usually... When in the past it was rumored to be jumping to C-band.

Might get lucky again this year, Sky on big screen, sat feed to the side for alt commentary and cameras... and the other 42 with the live timing.

Yep.. we get right into it :) make an online supercars acct and you can see when they have pitted and lap records etc. Easier to track than the tickertape

Just to clarify, is this the one device at a time policy or something different?

So what is the consensus on the best way to watch Bathurst then (without having Sky)...is it the VPN, V8Stream option as above, or is there something else which is a better option?

Historically (for the last 20+ years) I have sat and watched it through the whole day (made a bit of an event out of it - to great amusement of my bewildered friends); however with no access to Sky, this time around I am sweating a little/lot about potentially missing out on it.

Same here, tend to have the BBQ fired up and cold drinks on hand...... but if Sky end up locking down iSky, there goes my feed of the race :(

How To Kill An Event :

1) Invite Sky to the party.

I have an unused dish on my roof (ex SkyTV), how much work would that be to point at D2, and what am I likely to find there? I'd also need a suitable sat receiver.  Still be cheaper than a year's sub to Sky + Sports
(EDIT) but probably more expensive than one month's nonHD sub (with free sports package at present) plus the early termination fee of $286

Just let me stream it online Sky !!!

Needs to have the LNB head rotated slightly for a start, and then pointed a few degrees to the side of current location. (156? vs 152deg from memory)

Of course you do this after you have a decoder to help you along..
Preferably a HD DVB-S2 based one, capable of 4:2:2 to cover your HD signal bases. Of course not a lot of good to you if they go C-Band or discontinue using D2 like the rumors have been for a while.

A few odd things show up and go on D2. No more aussie TV, but there is a bit of live sports etc that appears now and then (rugby, aussie rules, tennis, cricket, horse racing). And of course pleanty of full time religious programming if you feel the need.

A sky 65cm dish is not big enough, for the HD feed on D2. You will need a minimum of a 90cm dish.
And as mentioned earlier a DVB-S2 capable box that can also do 4.2.2

If I was you, a vpn & V8 SuperView would be a easier & cheaper way to see Bathurst.

Depends where you are I use a 76cm and its fine. As for needing 422 the feeds are usually FTA in full hd using Mpeg 4 and dvbs2 format and you just need a DVBS2 receiver.

Some use PC USB or PCI satellite tuner cards and they will deal with the very rare occasion where 422 is being used.
