LOL ok.

Being more into a sport as a whole instead of just a win, my acknowledgment is that whoever drives a Merc has a huge advantage, and a car/team that is down on power yet can compete deserves a lot of kudos. Since 2014 its been a totally one sided sport. Thats fine as its a Constructors title and Merc deserves that in spades. Driver wise whoever wins, wins, but the god like admiration of a driver in a Mercedes is very much overstated.

You're not fussed? LOL, another ok, chuckle.

yes but RB will continue using it and developing it. though i'm not sure how it works. maybe like Brawn F1.

Transition year in 2022, they will use their staff and the intellectual property to take over what will be a Red Bull powerplant, making them an engine maker like Ferrari and Mercedes. From what I gather most if not all of the Honda engine people will become RBR people

I understand that the Merc issues was as a result of the 2019 Ferarri battle when they focused on power for 2020 at the expense of durability as they couldn't match the Ferarri engine but by the time it was realised that they had been not quite playing by the rules the engine changes where set.  Merc haven't run a party mode for most of the season and have appeared to have been worried by the PU quite early on and haven't run them as hard, but they still suffer.  I would expect with the suspension 'trick' that the merc chassis has along with the engine performance and high speed nature of the circuit it should favour Merc but then there where a number of tracks this year where this ahs been the case since 2014 and it turned out it wasn't.  The changes to the rear of the floor really affected the low rake cars (merc and aston) hence why they haven't been as fast in the fast twisty corners as they used to be.

I wonder whether Merc will opt for a new engine as well as for Yas?  its straights are long enough to probably make up the 5 places they need, and if RB did it as well then Merc would  be faster... lots of tactics.  I just want clean racing and I cannot see Max doing that, he has a history (prior to today) of not racing fair including some pretty impressive moving on the straights (2016 baku with danny ric, spa with raikonnen etc.).

i don't think they will use a new engine. they have plenty of usable ones.

plus who wants to come from behind and potentially need to pass 3 red bull cars if you can start in front of them. that is a risk that is greater than the benefit.

Think the 'right' result on pace was reached in the end. Verstappen should have been on pole had he not muffed that last corner in quali, but it almost certainly wouldn't have made a difference. I was saying when watching the practices that this was going to be a next level race with how fast & tight the track was....didn't have anything like that in mind though!

Would love to know what Verstappen was thinking when letting Lewis past that first time...wonder if he was just annoyed that Lewis was mucking about and not passing (waiting for DRS detection zone I suppose) and punched the brakes out of frustration? I can't imagine him deliberately trying to get rear ended - it's amazing he didn't cop a puncture or any damage from that.

The whole setup was a pretty amazing spectacle though.

Don't think RB can possibly beat Merc at Yas Marina on pace. Looking at the changes that have been made it looks to me like they may possibly benefit Merc a little, but hard to say - they have dominated there forever other than last year.

Maybe it's time to release the Tsunoda next weekend. 😬

If someone had written a script for what has happened this season, you'd think they were having a laugh.

i still can't quite understand what happened yesterday, but here's a summary without judgement passed

That's interesting, and not very Honda. From a personal point of view it won't be Honda any longer, they can't claim a world championship if they win.
Honda used to do funny things with how they moved their engineers around, one month you would be designing an F1 wing, the next a Civic door handle etc.
So I can't see them letting their engineers go for long.

Yep. They wont be Honda, although 2022 Im not sure, maybe they will be for that season. Ultimately they are out, in effect moving F1 engine dept to RBR, as they want to be a cleaner car manufacturer and F1 holds that back, apparently

Hopefully both get taken out on the first lap. If not I fear Lewis is going to drive off into the distance and then talk about how much better the RedBull was this weekend and all year, and talk about how it was the hardest race of his life and that he had to dig deep and use all his skill to drive the sweeping straights.

Now I just want Max to win to annoy all those UK journalists who absolutely hate him all of a sudden.

Can't deny that this championship has been the best thing for F1 in a decade or so.

Perfect post! Could not have summarised it better.

Ill wait for Batman, the No.1 Lewis supporter, to say that Lewis, if he wins, is the best driver ever, or if Max wins, Max is the best driver ever!

I'm happy whoever has more points will win.

If Lewis has more points I'm happy he wins. He becomes the best driver ever.

If Max has more points I'm happy he wins. He could become the best driver ever.

My preferred winner is is Gasly, Bottas, Vettel, Alonso in that order.

From one that is extremely Lewis biased.....

Im an RBR fan, a team that has won with lesser gear. This year, win or lose, they have done that with lesser gear. But as a sports fan, I disregard those that are just a fan of the winning player/team, and flip flop as required.

This would be the best case scenario so my preferred winners can win. Gasly and Bottas won't be allowed to fight if the top dogs are running. I think Gasly has put a strong case to take Perez seat next year.

I was a Max fan until last weekend. But now I'm a Bottas fan this weekend, Gasly if he gets a RB seat.
