Yep max was doing some late lunges with the inters when they where still for damp tracks, as soon as they switched to slicks the non-dry line was too slippery and they could not break late in to the corners while overtaking so any overtaking was done on straights which is how max got past Vettel in the end to claim 7th... and why Lewis slid off the track as he didn't ahve the speed to get past Vettel on the straights and needed to use the corners.

In the wet at singapore it is, a drying track provides for fun as long as it dries but night races with high humidity cannot dry as the water cannot evaporate anywhere so it just sits... unless you have inters or wet tyres, slicks cannot overtake in to non-dry line corners as shown by Hamilton and a few others sliding off the track.  The cars are bigger but that caters for the safety and engine size of them... the close following is now showing that the aero is working better for the racing and not the car, even more so when at Monza DRS didn't really do a vast amount.

 

As noted before, you either constrain the size of the engines to simple v6/8/10/12 without any of the environmental side, remove the driver safety protections or just accept that these things are big like all cars (compare a BMW e36 to an e90 or worse an old mini to a new mini) for safety reasons and that they need to carry their fuel rather than refill trackside in the race.

 

 

Yep. Its an odd track. Many variables. As I said, its a marketing track, good for F1 good for Singapore but no good for racing.

 

Lewis (I'm not his greatest fan) tried hard but ran off. Max, he has no pressure, tried hard and he ran off. Two TOP drivers. Sergio, very good but not great, drove SOLID, and won. 

 

Suzuka next, and old school track, pity that 130R is easy flat these days, they need to add a sausage curb to make it not flat.

I love Suzuka, the esses are amazing but as you've said 130r is not as fun now the cars have so much grip.. should be a RBR track with the long straight and reasonable curves; Ferarri should have the corners but probably not enough to get ahead of RBR and with their worse tyre deg will come up light.  Mercedes should go well but take an age to warm up their tyres so will be no where in quali but decent race pace.  Alpine should be 4th team but that depends if McLaren turn up.

Yep. Variables can mix things up, but over 305km the cream "generally" rises to the top. But too many variables, is too many variables, IMHO. But its Singapore, so lets watch Suzuka. The S's at the end of the pit straight, The Spoon, 130R (now boring)

 

I recall back in the day Mark Webber had a top notch chance to win the first of Vettels 4 titles, he spun before the Spoon = gutted!

Im hoping the bold. A team with so much potential, that has been shown, but then they have lack lustre races. I REALLY rate Lando

Lando is awesome, really rate him and look forward to him challenging max in the future. He just seems calm and nice and quite funny... I quite like his sim racing stuff that he does.

Gasly confirmed to Alpine and deVries to Alpha Tauri.  I would guess that scuppers Lawson's chance at the second FP1 drive with AT later this season.  Perhaps he will still be in line for the FP1 drive remaining with Bed Bull but, now they have deVries signed up, maybe the Dutchman will get both of them.

It does make you wonder, with five aligned drivers in F2 who are all apparently unworthy, is it more about locking up any driver who might turn out to be decent rather than any skilled early talent-spotting on the part of Red Bull.

 

As I said earlier, feel sorry for Liam that he hasn't grabbed the opportunity with both hands, would have been great for us to have a Kiwi to follow in F1 next year.  Everything I've read or seen suggests that he was supposed to be next cab off the rank, and perhaps deserved an opportunity to step up despite his average 2022 season.

 

I thought deVries had the lock on that Williams seat, given the Merc ties.  I guess the Danny Ricc reserve rumours means Mercedes have no need to keep deVries handy just in case.

 

Who gets the Williams seat now, maybe Sargent over Doohan because he's an American?

Why no news on the 130R issue on the outlaps? Spark Sport showed the meeting with the Stewards was in 15 minutes, ages ago.

 

My feel is that both are on outlaps. Max spun his tyres so that clearly caused Lando to avoid a crash, and via the grass, potentially very dangerous. The opposing factor is that outlaps are slow for everyone there, yet Lando was very fast, there are white flags, but ignored?

Speculation, again. The fact is “Regarding penalty, all previous breaches of this nature have resulted in a reprimand, hence a similar penalty is imposed in this case.”

 

Re the commentators, they also mentioned that the outlap cars are all slow, but Lando was fast. Had he remained at outlap pace, no issue.
