Speaking of dismal failure....how good is Lance Stroll . Surely he cant continue.

He cant even get to the start line. His dad seems like a pretty ruthless dude. Let Lance go man. Put him in a Indycar or Formula-E that's where you go when your not good enough for F1.

His dad

I like Liam, what he has been showing, I suspect he has a PR person on stream. Kiwi anthem for McLaren is not dumb, it has a sense of ok-ness, but its news, good news. Once its commented on by the media as yeah, nah, it was still news bites for him and NZ

Liam pulling the finger at Perez has not gone down well at all.
Think that one may stay with him now.

Out of interest Liam is ‘technically’ wrong on this one.
New Zealand is one of only two countries that have more than one official anthem of equal status.
It’s not well known but they actually are playing a New Zealand Anthem already.

Similar to having only two official languages, of which English isn’t one of them.

Agree McLaren could do a lot more in acknowledging their kiwi heritage. That’s a bit sad to ignore it.

Money talks louder than sentiment. Now what does  Qatar's anthem sound like?

I disagree that the finger incident has been/will ultimately be bad for him. Red Bull will have all the speed traces for Lawson and Perez, if there was brake testing going on as Lawson claimed prior to his pass and gesture to Perez, they will be fully aware of it. Likewise, Lawson has been a Red Bull driver since 2019 and his temperament behind the wheel will be well known and understood by them.

If Lawson has any luck the skirmishes he has had so far will be beaten up on next year's Drive To Survive and will further raise his profile, making him potentially more desirable as a commodity to sponsors for Red Bull and personally.

As I read in the comments on the 'finger-gate' story somewhere, paraphrasing, "and, of course, Senna, Schumacher, Vettel, <insert driver of your choice here> were all perfect gentlemen on the track". All saints now for various reasons.

If he can bank more points and get to the sharp end of the grid on a regular basis then everything else will just become white noise. His main threats at the moment are his ability to qualify well consistently, as I think we saw in F2, and the rise of Colapinto.

Agree with all of that. Was meaning more with the fans though, where doing that to a driver at his home race didn’t go down so well PR wise.

Colapinto's crash and general wet race skill has dampened his over hype train a bit imo

Interesting what Max, Pierre and Esteban were saying in all the post race interviews regarding when they were kids in carting, how they were the only ones who stayed out on track in the rain and the snow when everyone else went inside. It showed/paid off.

Also interesting to see all the reactive late breaking V corner shape drivers struggle massively staying on the road (Sainz and Alonso being a case and point) vs Max dominating with a master class in anticipative early braking U corner / short corner style.

Hopefully the next Kiwi to make it through to F1.

Thought it was amusing that the author had to mention he is British-born, as if that has some relevance to his driving abilities.

Will be great to follow him in F3 next season, hopefully he can run through that like a dose of the salts and into F2.

Vegas weekend is upon us!

last 3 races and the driver's title should be sealed even if Max isn't participating in all 3 races since Ferrari & Mercedes seemed to have suddenly found pace to challenge for victories...

Constructors will be an interesting fight all the way to the last race...can Ferrari finally take it, or a resurgent Max help RB keep the top spot for another year?

Can't wait!

McLaren deserve Constructors, but Ferrari too. But prefer McLaren for bias reasons plus they grew that car from nothing

Max is just mathematical, but 3 big races, and help from the other two teams

Picking Sainz for the win this evening, think Russell will make a mistake somewhere. I can't see Verstappen wrapping up the Driver's at Vegas though, Norris is bound to pick up enough points to keep the challenge alive.

Lawson has had a forgettable weekend so far and hard to see him getting near the points without major crash assistance. He's looked timid behind the wheel compared to Tsunoda, maybe he has been driving within himself so as not to bin it into a wall like Colapinto. But, it's been worryingly unimpressive from a Kiwi point of view.

Tsunoda has been on fire, driven really well and deserves his grid spot. Also probably deserves that second Red Bull seat regardless of the Honda tie-in, and especially after Horner put his head in the sand with Sainz. Just don't think Lawson is doing enough to warrant a go in the top team unfortunately. He will really need to comprehensively beat Tsunoda in the Middle East to sway the narrative otherwise.

Perez continuing to embarrass himself. Starting one spot behind Lawson should give him concern and he will need to stay well clear of the Mexican off the line. Expect to see Perez try to steamroll his way through the field at the start for an early yellow or red flag. Lawson's strategy should be to run softs with this in mind I think, gotta be a flag within the first 10-15 laps for sure. Cheap tire change to hards from there.

Looking forward to the race at a reasonable time for us though. Fish & Chips and F1 tonight I think.

Lawson has been off the pace all weekend, he just needs to have clean race, and finish higher than his quaili position, better still if he can beat Perez. He's gonna want to forget this weekend soon enough.

Impressed with Tsunoda this weekend he has out qualified that car.

Wouldn't want to be a William mechanic how many times have rebuilt those cars. Must be getting pricey.

I'm hoping that Mercedes can slot P1. Something about the cold track temperature and the low grip that suits the car.

Its a weird bot not weird race weekend. No, Im not a politician

George. Mercedes are on song, they cannot manage heat, its cold. Fair enough. Once high fuel kicks in, heat ie easier managed, but good on him

Sainz. Nothing to lose and all to gain. Go Carlos.

Liam. Bias aside he seems to build up. New track and not an easy track. He could go hard to make a name for himself or like many others this year ends up in the wall. Notably when I watched Sky Quali coverage, Yuki was interviewed, about his chances of partnering Max. He said what he said, but what was interesting was "if they changed their mind" To me that means Liam is pretty much decided. Liam IMHO has done plenty. Subbed for Danny Ricc with no notice, most tracks never been, new car he had never driven, same as now. Yuki has massive experience compared to Liam. Id rate him as decent, deserves a seat, but many do, and are not or will not be there. In short, the short time to show his wares vs Yuki who had had longer to show his wares.
