lchiu7: I suspect if it's on the NFL popup channel it will be in SD. if it's on TV1 then maybe HD. But since it's on Waitangi Day maybe TVNZ will show Waitangi Day celebrations instead.

It's on Monday the 8th. Waitangi day is still the 6th, even though we now get the public holiday Mondayised.

Technofreak: I see today there's been several headlines about the Superbowl.  Is it a fish bowl or a fruit bowl?  :)

No one I know of anyone who ever talks about the Superbowl. It's pretty well irrelevant to nearly all New Zealanders.

It mystifies me how something as insignificant as this is in New Zealand gets so much column space. This space/bandwidth would be better used on something remotely of interest to the general New Zealand public.  There's national sports teams from this country that don't get this sort of coverage and deserve it ahead of the likes of the Superbowl.

The Superbowl isn't the only example it's just one that is in the news at the moment.  The "World Series Baseball" is another.  Ice hockey another.

Is it just lazy journalism, reporters just picking up feeds and republishing them.  If so they need to think about their readership a bit more.

Just because you don't like it.

Quite a few people like the superbowl, including me. It is huge .

I'm looking forward to it and glad it's on FTA.  Fingers crossed Manning gets another ring.

Nah-ah.  If he does it'll be tainted with the HGH scandal.  Not that Inflategate hurt the Patriots.

Go the Panthers.

I don't mind it as a very vague interest. I find that crowd behaviour at US sports events is more conducive to enjoying it as an event rather than just an excuse to see how many over-priced bottles of bad beer you can throw down your neck without getting kicked out of the venue...

I see it's also on BBC2 so if you watch it on the BBC iPlayer if you are away from your TV (but at home I guess because of the need to have a unblock type service)

NZ media is pretty much shutting down. The only local media we actually own (TVNZ and RNZ) is being crippled by the National government. They have abolished the public broadcasting charter; killed off TVNZ7 because is cost $16M (but we get flags for $26M and pandas for $22M and they spent $100M selling off 49% of our strategic energy assets).

The result? Our news is now mostly someone else's....and the Super Bowl is just one example. This government would prefer we know as little as possible about what's going on in NZ.

I don't watch sports. Playing sports for fun is fun especially with family, but watching them? Ugh.

If you have a fireTV from Amazon, you can watch the SB free. Download the CBS App, no signup or subscription required.!

I just tried this with my Fire Stick.  Got into the CBS site but when I clicked "Superbowl 50"  I got  "Not available in your region"  I suspect that  Unotelly  is  not routing Netflix via the US directly which would account for why some of the channels on Amazon no longer work and on my Apple TV  the spelling of  TV Programs  has changed to TV Programmes over the past two weeks. .

ESPN looks like upscaled 480i from alternate feed, Sky have lost ESPN2 completely.

EDIT: ESPN switched back to 720p at 12:34

ESPN is 50fps compared to TVNZ's 25fps.
