Bugger, had a flight booked from Auckland to Haneda on the 31st of FebJan with a connecting domestic. I hope calling them up will let me get a flight on the day before, the next re-scheduled flight is the 28th :(

Didn't even know until a friend pm'd me about it. No email or anything, and the airnz app only updated when I refreshed it.

Edit: It was January

Haneda's gone for this summer

https://traveltalk.nz/news-opinion/airline/air-new-zealand-suspends-vietnam-and-tokyo-haneda-services/

you are more than likely gonna need to do a surface transfer from NRT

Also, I'm guessing its 31 Jan, not 31 Feb :)

Thanks, yea its January going over to Feb for the trip.

Just hoping for a flight the day before because in my infinite wisdom I got a non-flexible domestic from haneda in the middle of the day >:(

What contact details do Air NZ have? I thought they were contacting passengers last week which will normally be an email advising of a flight change. They may also send a SMS. You didn't book through a travel agent at all did you? If so it's up to them to contact you.

Your options are as follows -

Ticketed customers impacted by this schedule change will be re-accommodated onto nonstop AKLNRT services, however will have the following options available:

1. Rebook on an alternative NZ operated service on a different route / different day

2. Hold in credit 12 months from the date of issue where travel has not commenced or 12 months from the first flight departure where travel has commenced on the ticket. The change fee is not applicable with endorsement SC REISS DUE NW19

3. Full refund of unused tickets. Please use SC REFUND DUE SC NW19

Obviously if you're not a week behind everybody else who changed you might find you have limited options to flying on that same day.

Do you have to be in Haneda at all? Any direct flight to where you were suppose to end up in the first place? One option is take the train from NRT to HND which is what we will end up doing this December as connecting flight and hotel accommodation are like yours e.g. not flexi.

The airnz app says this flight is undergoing a change and that i'll be contacted. They have my email but not sure about my mobile on my airnz account. No email about the change though, only airpoints updates and regular newsletters.

The domestic is to Sapporo Chitose, which there is no direct from Auckland.

If there is a landing flight that gives us time to hop on the 2 hour train same day before the 11am domestic then sure. Otherwise it might be a day extra in Tokyo (which isn't too bad).

There are plenty of domestic flights from Narita to Chitose, most from  discount carriers,

example...

I think his problem is he already has booked flights that are not flexible.

Not sure how much you will get if you choose the refund option but there is a flight on the 30th with Qantas leaving 6:40PM via Sydney and arrives 5AM in Haneda on the 31st.

Problem is I made the mistake of booking it already from Haneda, almost a month ago.

I have to weigh up the cost of change/cancelling the domestic vs the hassle. I do have friends in tokyo that I could owe a favour to so accommodation is okay.

Try the following airlines online flight search feature for flights AKL --> CTS

China Airlines

Korean Air

EVA Air

They may come up with easier cheaper connecting flights.

Alright, pretty much solved. They had me auto booked into a AKL-NRT flight the day after which would be a no go. Helpdesk got me the flight on the day which works out well, just one night in Tokyo before heading over to Haneda.

It used up a one-time free of charge booking change which I didn't know until after I had made the change. No accommodation help either which would've been nice but not really expected.

The automated response picked up my mobile with my airnz account so they definitely had my contact #. Helpdesk mentioned that I should've gotten an email when this all happened. Thanked them for their help with getting an earlier flight but left feedback that their notification service could be better considering I got the info third-party.

The new Pullman in Tamachi is very nice and easy to get to. There is a tube station there too, if that helps.

Slightly cheaper and in the upmarket shopping centre rather than a business district is the Grand Mercure, which also has a tube station and is within easy walking of lots of Tokyo stores for shopping.

Is Narita that bad? Boo booked flights in and out of Narita to find that it is like 50kms from Tokyo!

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

It's not too long a train ride into central Tokyo from Narita any more, in the past it used to take over an hour I think

I've walked around Narita (the town) and it's quite nice and has a huge temple complex

It's still about an hour even if you take the NEX which cost bout 42NZD one way. 80-90 mins if you take the normal train which is cheaper. Or take the limo bus which cost a bit more than the normal train but avoids the need for connecting trains especially if you are lugging your luggage.
