Clearly deliberate boofheadery or corporate sabotage. And at Christmas too!

I dread to thing of the copycats that are going to follow.

EDIT: making the link work

Just wait until one inevitably causes a major plane crash. It'll really hit the fan!

Is this part of a plot in a spy novel? It should be! ; )

It's a coordinated event which has been well planned. Rather than looking for a guy with a random beef they should be looking at terrorist organisations.

The problem now is going to be copy cat events.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Here is the standard fine, plus $200 court costs, plus $18 million damages for costs incurred by Gatwick and the Army

Whats the range of industrial class drones?

I guess that technically the pilot(s) could be anywhere in the world?

You can get 4G drones, so I suppose so, but that would be quite the effort. The suggestion seems to be that the scr0tes were moving around the perimeter of the airport.

But it does show what someone bent on causing maximum chaos can achieve with a relatively modest budget and too much time on their hands.

I used to really hate Drones, but now I can see they are actually useful in some circumstances.

There will be a very tragic incident (not an accident) caused by these morons. Maybe it is time to bring in very tough restrictions regarding the sale and penalties, these incidents should be treated as attempted terrorism or attempted murder.

Over there, but not taking effect yet, is that all drones over 8oz have to be registered, that's a start

Yeah, I was thinking that a foreign power could cause a lot of mahem for very little cost and little chance of being fingered (especially if the drones could be remotely controlled from outside the country).

I hadn't thought of that! Britain isn't exactly getting on with any of China, Russia or even France at the moment...

The Brits. are happy to spend 6.2 billion pounds building two new aircraft carriers yet they don't have the technology to shoot down or disable a drone costing less than a thousand pounds.   If you read the Gatwick airport twitter it's going nuts with all sorts of conspiracy theories about the authorities not telling the public the whole story.

And it's hard not to want to think it's some sort of conspiracy. 24 hours without flights?!
