I'm trying to gauge because I have an American friend who gives me insight on how things work in America.

According to them, everything Trump says is truth.

Everything Democrats say is a lie.

I'm trying to figure out which news channel they follow but they won't tell me.

In conclusion, half of America thinks the Covid virus  is deployed by evil people in the world for their own personal gain. I am serious. (From looking at the comments from the other news of the world, half the world also think that. Inc NZ. Serious.)

Interesting video from 2018, Is Trump ready for a global outbreak. Note that it's from The Atlantic, which is from a good literary journal in general but they have a bit of an obsession with Trump.

Anyone who thinks Trump tells the truth is mainlining Fox. No question about it. That is what they suck on and nothing else.

Fox. With what you describe he may as well have it tattooed on his foreheard.

Presumably with a side order of Breitbart, Infowars, One America, and whatever white-supremacist and neo-nazi web sites say what they want to hear.

I've also got a friend who's a Trump supporter...

Hi I'm very confused by American broadcasters and their politics.

CNN = Democrats - correct?

As usual, Trump picked fights not only with organizations, but with individuals.

Trump administration pulled the White House press credentials from Brian Karem and chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta. This has never been done before. Federal judges ruled Trump exceeded his authority twice. He can't pull someone's press credentials.

You'll notice he frequently asks what news organization someone belongs to, then insults the reporter, before answering a question. He has given these CNN employees these nicknames
  • Paul Begala "Dopey CNN Flunky"
  • Maggie Haberman "Crooked H Flunkie"
  • Don Lemon "Sour Lemon", "The Dumbest Man on Television"
  • CNN president Jeff Zucker "Little Zucker"
  • chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta "Crazy Jim Acosta"
CNN is considered mainstream, but once Trump started abusing powers, and started the personal attacks, their tone slowly changed.

MSNBC is considered very liberal, sort of the anemic yin to Fox's yang.

MSNBC is not to be confused with NBC.

NBC is considered slightly right of middle, but have been giving punishing coverage of Trump recently.

Is that right? I guess Rachel Maddow would be considered liberal in America though I just see her as someone who elucidates facts instead of spouting bullsh!t. Joe Scarborough hates Trump as much as any sane person, but mostly just tries to dominate discussions while telling everyone what a Republican he used to be. He and Mia (especially Mia) are definitely liberal by American standards, but hardly flaming radicals.

Do Americans even see MSNBC or do they just get the watered-down domestic versions?

As a vague generalisation, most US broadcast media isn't very good when it comes to political coverage. I watched some segment off MSNBC a while back and it was a bunch of people sitting around a desk crapping on about what a mess Trump had made of the US. It wasn't reporting, it was just, to use my favourite Linus quote, "people wanking around with their opinions". I don't know if it's always been this bad or it's a response to how Fox does politics, but I wasn't impressed.

If you want good political commentary on the US, go with print media, since Trump's fan club presumably reads as little as he does so it's not as polarised. Or refer to non-US media, which by and large is pretty good compared to the US equivalents.

Is there a non-US vs US version of MSNBC? I know there's a domestic vs. international version of CNN - you can see it yourself if you're travelling internationally, look at the difference between what gets streamed in US vs. non-US airport lounges - but don't know if the other channels have international content since they're pretty much US only. I mean, would you watch MSNBC when you have the BBC, Al Jazeera, ...?

I see NBC and CNBC as the domestic version of MSNBC. That is just my take on it. I used to mainly watch BBC, with some Al Jazeera, but as Trump has come to dominate American politics, I have shifted mostly to US channels like CNN International, MSNBC, and CBS. That is for American coverage. I get international news from other sources.

I like MSNBC also.

Historically MSNBC is much more diverse than either CNN and Fox news. African Americans and Latinos are 7X more likely to watch MSNBC than Fox news.

Rachel Maddow has been consistently a ratings winner even before Trump was elected, often beating CNN in the same time slot.

Trumpers: "Kentucky reports highest coronavirus infection increase after a week of protests to reopen state".

Darwin Awards to everyone!

The sad thing is that's Andy Beshear's state, he's drawn international praise for how well he's handled the Covid19 situation. And that includes from Republicans. There are various joke memes about him, including a bidding war from other states wanting him as their governor.

Amusing...but also rather tragic.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.
