Labour went to great lengths to protect identity of the sex predator at their youth camp.
The inquiry Ardern promised to be completed in 3mths has only just started & victims contacted.
Kirton falls on his sword.
Police say charges may still be laid.

You've got to give credit where it's due...

Whoever has been "managing" this scandal for Labour since it went public has done an outstanding job of getting the key players out of the firing line before police charges were laid.

I am horrified to see Andrew Kirton has landed a nice Kushy job with AirNZ, just as Ardern goes into Labour. It stinks.

He should be facing charges for failing to notify the police and facing career-ending criticism for failing to notify the parents that an incident has occurred and choosing not to inform the leader.

So, the “review” has been completed, and predictably suppressed.

It seems that the “victim lead approach” stopped as soon as this incident became public... now at least one of the victims is appalled at how this has been handled

I would be interested to know what depths of potentially criminally neglectful behaviour Jacinda’s party needs to stoop to before you’ll stop looking to make excuses on their behalf and finally realise that, “Hey, there’s something seriously wrong going on here.”???

Is your position honestly that because only one of the multiple victims of sexual assault has had the courage to publicly condemn the way that this has been handled, that it might actually be just a single cherry-picked bad apple looking to cause trouble?

I would be equally interested to know why you (and some others) are so obsessively determined to find fault with anything and everything that Jacinda's party does. My position is honestly that one swallow does not make a spring. I do not know that Labour has not been engaged in nefarious, evil and illegal activities in regard to this and/or other issues. I also do not know that it has. I am merely observing that the article referenced offers no proof of anything one way or the other. It simply reports (maybe or maybe not accurately) what one person has said. I am not prepared to pass judgement on anything on the basis of that. It proves nothing.

First off, you give me too much credit for “finding fault”... I’m just “reacting” to fault that others have found and have reported on...

As to why I react the way that I have? Because I feel let down. This is the organisation entrusted to run our country. They are being repeatedly exposed as being incompetent, neglectful, and duplicitous - focused more on covering up their inadequacies than governing. (Be that via outright misinformation, suppression, or simply deferring any decision making to 153 different working groups)

In relation to the matter at hand, we are so far past “one swallow” that it’s laughable to try and deflect like that. We have multiple confirmed victims, many more witnesses, numerous criminal charges laid by the police, months-long reviews on the matter undertaken by esteemed (and expensive) QCs.

Under what pretext are you arguing that Labour might not be engaged in (dodgy things)??

I suspect nothing Labour could do would win your approval. I am not arguing that they are not engaged in dodgy things. I thought I made that clear. I am just saying that the article you cited doesn't prove anything. If other victims also speak out or voice their support for the comments made by the one in the article, I would be prepared to give it much more credence.

I will freely admit my bias against this government, I think they’re doing a terrible job. Everyone has personal bias to some extent - but very few people seem to be looking at this scandal and saying, “they handled it well”

For the record, I am not a fan of this government. When it first took power, I felt that the right-wing lobby here was jumping on every mistake and misstep. Those who disapprove of progressive politics seemed to be going out of their way to put the boot in even when there wasn't a valid reason for it. Just because it was Labour-led, and people resented the way NZ First gamed the system, they weren't even giving it a fair go.

I now think they have had enough time to prove themselves. I think they are behaving like a fairly typical government, stuffing up things they shouldn't and trying to cover their arses when they do. But I do not believe everything they touch turns to crap. I do not believe they are flushing the country down the toilet. I think they are doing some things wrong, and some things right. I prefer progressive politics to money politics and if I had a choice right now, I would vote for them again in spite of everything. I just do not see National as a better alternative, especially at this time. But I am also not blind to this government's failings. I continue to hope they will learn from experience and do better.

UPDATE: 2 of the original 6 charges laid against the alleged perpetrator have been dropped.

It's a shame that the media seem to be prevented from disclosing any further information about why this has occurred.
