quickymart: If there's any silver lining to this (I guess), at least he can't run again in 2028.

Same with that other guy, what was his name again, Vladimir something?  He stepped down at the end of his two terms in 2008 and has been living quietly in retirement since then.

Also, who says there'll be more elections in the US in 2028?

I realise you're taking the mickey, but on the second point I do hope you're wrong.

Neither can Biden, Nor Harris for that matter if the Democrats start growing some brains. The Dems have only themselves to blame, performing so poorly this time around that they’ve handed Trump the popular vote.

In my opinion, this is a good result, because Harris would have been a disaster with her woke agenda. Americans will be better off under Trump, even if you don’t like the guy.

What is woke?

One of the many magic trigger words used by the US far right to get their followers to switch their minds off [0], along with "grooming", "socialism", ... umm, various others, I don't listen to that sort of cr*p much.

[0] "He had that ability which is needed to make people stop thinking critically and just emote" - Egon Hanfstaengl, Hitler's godson, and not a fan.

Harris won't be speaking to her supporters tonight, she plans to do so tomorrow.

This is feeling like 2016 all over again for me 😕

I know, just wish that things had gone differently.

A few people I know on social media are loud (and obvious) Trump supporters, and the gloating and gleefulness is making me depressed. One even said that the result was good for the world (somehow).

Yep, I suspect most did, but not in the US, she didnt even get the popular vote.

When you control all narratives from Fox to X, its not hard to plot the moments they whittled away a 5% lead, who is the true enemy within?

Politico is reporting that Trump has won Wisconsin, which pushes him over 270:

Its probably not a word that many kiwis are familiar with but I am pretty sure Winston Peters, David Seymour and even Christopher Luxon is very familiar with the term.

This story outlines probably some of the first things he'll do in office, ie, end most of the criminal cases against him. Judge, jury and executioner, indeed.

You would have thought they would have learned from their previous mistakes.

It's the opposite of the 100M eligible voters who stayed asleep and didn’t bother voting.

You are missing the point. He is referring to your use of disingenuous right-wing rubbish words used to describe anything you don't like.

johno1234: People let’s just breathe deeply and chill. The world did not end in 2016 and won’t in 2024 either.

That's because in 2016, he didn't expect to win. In 2024, he and his backers, the Heritage Foundation, are prepared. There's a 180-day plan ready to go from day one to dismantle the administrative state... wait, I've already posted this. In that case, copy-pasta:

He's backed by powerful organisations who have an agenda to essentially destroy the administrative state. The Heritage Foundation. The Federalist Society. They have a 180-day plan to essentially make Trump God-Emperor by dismantling federal agencies, firing millions of public servants and replacing them with vetted MAGA loyalists, and utterly obliterating civil rights, which the nation spent centuries to secure. It's 900 pages and you can read it right here. And make no mistake, Trump was involved with this abomination.

You don’t understand how the administrative branches - house, senate, scotus and potus work.
There’s a reason none of your doomsday scenarios have ever happened in the past.

It's primarily because there's never been a nutcase like Trump around.

History unfortunately repeats, and we wonder how the different countries end up with these leaders. I just hope we don't end up in a WW2 situation.  I thought what was interesting, is one commentator said that Trump has essentially been in the headlines for the last decade so was very well known with voters, for better or worse. Harris has had very little exposure, despite being VP. A pity Obama didn't run, as she had the potential to win IMO, but she didn't have enough time. But Biden should have ruled himself out for standing years ago, as there was no way he would make another 4 years. Not sure Trump will make 4 years, being obese combined with his age, being he oldest ever elected president.
