Fireworks lit up the sky over the Mount Rushmore monument which, in a controversial move, Trump chose as the venue for this year's festivities. In a divisive speech, he criticized recent protests against racial injustice as "a merciless campaign to wipe out our history." Trump made little reference to the coronavirus pandemic, though his speech came on a day the US saw another record rise in cases, with more than 57,000 new infections.

It also seems like a really bad move for the DPRK, if their patsy gets voted out in November, as seems rather likely at the moment, then they aren't going to be able to walk all over the US like they have until now. Better a quick deal that gives the DPRK what they want now than a later one done by real negotiators that won't hand them what they want.

President Trump’s unyielding push to preserve Confederate symbols and the legacy of white domination, crystallized by his harsh denunciation of the racial justice movement Friday night at Mount Rushmore, has unnerved Republicans who have long enabled him but now fear losing power and forever associating their party with his racial animus.

Former Ohio governor John Kasich, a Republican who ran against Trump in 2016, said the GOP’s muted and scattered response to the president on race this week underscores how the party is “in decline” and has become a vessel for Trumpism -

“They coddled this guy the whole time and now it’s like some rats are jumping off of the sinking ship. It’s just a little late,” Kasich said. “It’s left this nation with a crescendo of hate not only between politicians but between citizens. ... It started with Charlottesville and people remained silent then, and we find ourselves in this position now.” ...

Cornell Belcher, a Democratic pollster who has done extensive research on racial divisions, argues that Trump is likely to continue to play to “white resentment politics” because it is the only strategy that could stave off further erosion of his support.

“Without white resentment, there is no rationale for Donald Trump,” Belcher said. “Without that, what reason do his supporters have to be with Donald Trump if he’s not going to be your tribal strong man? He started there and will end there.” ...

I think it's 2024 he announced not 2020

Regardless he can stand as an independent, no primaries required

Just like I think there will be a large number of votes this year for Howie Hawkins of the Green party. Since of us can't stomach voting for either old-white-rich-corrupt-rapist

There probably will be, but he won't win - neither candidate was particularly popular in 2016, and yet Trump still won.
