But right now Donald is very short of bread, and and his creditors are hovering.

 

Circuses, on the other hand, don't cost him a cent - the taxpayer pays for it all.   🤡

There are several problems with this theory. First, how could anyone possibly predict Trump and the entire American administration would act like total idiots for the last six months and then infect each other? Uh.. don't try to answer that.. it's hurting my head..

Across the country, patients have struggled with both the long-term health and financial effects of contracting coronavirus. Nearly half a million have been hospitalized. Routine tests can result in thousands of dollars in uncovered charges; hospitalized patients have received bills upward of NZ $610,000.

Mr. Trump did not have to worry about the costs of his care, which are covered by the federal government. Most Americans, including many who carry health coverage, do worry about receiving medical care they cannot afford.

...Covid tests can be expensive. Although they typically cost NZ $150, one emergency room in Texas has charged as much as $10,000 for a drive-through test. About 2.4 percent of coronavirus tests billed to insurers leave the patient responsible for some portion of payment, according to the health data firm Castlight. With 108 million tests performed in the United States, that could amount to millions of tests that leave patients responsible for some share of the cost.

Marta Bartan, who works as a hair colorist in Brooklyn, needed a coronavirus test to return to her job this summer. She received a $2,100 bill from the hospital running the drive-through site where she was tested.

“I was so confused,” said Ms. Bartan, who is contesting the bill. “You go in to get a Covid test expecting it to be free. What could they have possibly charged me $2,100 for?”

...Remdesivir, a new coronavirus treatment created by Gilead, costs $4,700 when purchased by private insurers and $2,340 with public programs like Medicare and Medicaid.

They do have some early estimates: The median charge for a coronavirus hospitalization for a patient over 60 is $95,000, according to a claims database, FAIR Health.

...For insured patients, that price would typically be negotiated lower by their health plan. FAIR Health estimates that the median amount paid is $48,000 That amount, like most things in American health care, varies significantly from one patient to another.

In the FAIR Health data on coronavirus patients over 60, a quarter face charges less than $40,800 for their hospital stay. Another quarter face charges higher than $293,700, in part because of longer stays.

...Air ambulances are expensive. The median charge for an air ambulance is $59,000, according to a study in the journal Health Affairs published this year. When the helicopter trip is out of network — as about three-quarters of them are — patients are left with a median charge of $50,177 after the insurance payout.

yep they Blame Trump, instead of blaming the Republicans, or the Democrats, or Congress that passed these laws, or the decades of the system that allowed the American healthcare system to snowball into this, and offer some of the perverse incentives mentioned

 

and of course the NYT would never ever ever mention, that even the most basic simple easy of reforms - ending surprise medical billing, got blocked for the past 4 years by the Democrats Richard Neal, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

 

The system is rotten to the core

"Job Growth by President" - surprises me that jobs increased by such a large amount over the single 4 year term of Carter - this during a period of stagflation / low growth.  How did that happen?

Trump essentially won by not being a Republican, and saying very populist things, now 4 years later has got sucked in and played by the Republican parties ideologies.  They want to spend no money - the deficit hawkery, and just wish the virus away by reopening the economy, that's the decision they all made 6 months ago.  Trump could have easily won this election

 

1. Make it rain with money to voters with proper stimulus, what idiot wouldn't do that in a pandemic, in an election year

 

2. Take the Pandemic seriously

 

Instead he has turned the election, which should be about policies and outcomes, into a referendum on his handling of the plague

 

People don't like the chaos, but we do like the freak-out by the establishment - the best parts of Trump is who he drives crazy, but what we like, especially in the middle of a pandemic is competence.  He lost the people when he showed incompetence in an area that deeply matters.

 

Biden is winning by offering nothing on policy, its pathetic, this is the most substantive policy free election that I can ever remember

 

 

Christ, it's like he ignores all the important crap going on in America and focuses on the useless; crap which only appeals to/impacts him or his base, and doesn't really matter to the majority of the American voting population.

 

Note that this stuff may indeed be important, to someone, somewhere, sometime. But really, right now is not the time to be focused on things like this. It's his classic tactic - deflect from his failings. I find it hard to keep up.

 

 

You could literally replace the Republicans with the Democrats in this statement and it would still make perfect sense.

 

and since it was the Dems that started the ball rolling on the Russiagate hoax....

Biden hits his highest polling of the year for the electoral college - Trump 17% chance winning, Biden 83% chance.  Biden wins popular vote, by about the same margin as Obama beat McCain in 2008 - 7 - a borderline landslide

 

Trump has 3 problems.  Debates did him no favors.  COVID diagnosis did him no favors.  There is no time left 60% of people think his pandemic handling was useless = no sympathy

 

But race not over - 17% is not bad odds - Russian roulette, 1 in 6 shots in a revolver, but you have to go back to Truman 1948 for a comeback like Trump needs

Its silly that we continue fall for this, since when was last time a Politician didn't blatantly lie to our faces?  This is standard operating procedure.

 

Trust is broken.  Biden says he is going to restore the soul of the nation - he doesn't mean ending consumerism, he doesn't mean stopping caring about ridiculous GDP growth.

 

No, he means he will send nicer tweets, he will use more appropriate language and he will continue selling out, in all the normal officially sanctioned OK ways

 

America never ever needed a transformation more, and we've never been more unlikely to actually get one, than now.

You can't build any house on shaky foundations. The US appears so divided to me that I don't believe there is any way back.

 

Dial back some of nathan's rhetoric, or possibly rage, and a lot of what he says rings true. I'm sure if I lived there I would feel a lot of the frustration he does.
