MikeB4: I have posted this before, but witnessing borderline panic I feel it is appropriate to repost it

No one, in the history of the internet, has been made more calm by this stupid graphic or the words it tries to portray. Every time I see it or it's many variants, my blood pressure rises and I wish severe harm to it's author (not you, the author of the keep calm and carry on bs).

Just trying to lighten the mood. I don’t understand why political discussion s are ultimately filled with extreme angst , anger and passion.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Well, I see our esteemed PM went to Australia and pretty much got told to go home and mind our own business. No concession on education either, so now we are going to potentially go to tit for tat. Reality is, we have more to lose, so that ultimately probably won't work.

I am kind of glad we won't get to take these refugees, they hardly sound like they are going to come here, and be community spirited contributing members of society.

Apparently, she wants to review the fireworks stuff now as well. Inevitably, her cat got ANOTHER mention. It's hardly doing her image any benefit (Except with old ladies from Greymouth) with her cat being mentioned in almost every article. She'll get to be known as the "cat lady from NZ" in international circles. "We have this legislation through the select committee and parliament has approved it, just need to clear one last hurdle before it can become law, and check with my cat.

Fireworks are sh!te these days, every year its the same injuries. They need to be banned, and allow really cool pro displays

LOL with all the OSH in this world, we can set off unreliable explosives in our back yard.

This year was the first year I was bothered by the fireworks, but I was exceptionally tired. I am pro fireworks, I enjoy setting them off safely with my kids, they enjoy the $30 box we buy each year including sparklers etc. Fire callouts are lower now and the Fire guy on National Radio was saying he was encouraged and happy with the lower numbers of callouts.

I doubt if anything she does will improve her image in your eyes. Maybe it is time to just accept the election result and move on. You can always campaign against her next time.

There are a couple of things she could do, for example, she could resign :)

I have accepted the result, I don't need to be happy about it, you certainly did your fair share of complaining when National was in power, how is this any different?

Last time I checked, this thread wasn't entitled "only good things can be written about our PM thread"? Having said that, not everything I have said has been negative. She will get credit from me, when I feel it's justified.

I am pleased someone else also read that into her visit. Not sure why she went. Maybe she will now realise we are not considered very significant on the world stage. Key was because he earned the reputation over a decade...maybe Jacinda will.

I hope she doesnt get too hyped about APEC and the TPP this week. She probably thinks all the worlds leaders will be queuing up to meet her and enquire about her cat.

The other big statement over the weekend was that the Public Service was going to be gender equal within 4 years. I am not entirely sure what that all means...perhaps all new positions men need not apply? Every Govt Dept I go to most staff seem to be female already. Guess we need to wait and see what the Green Minister is getting at.

I can't see how this isn't gender discrimination if people are being picked by gender vs best qualified to do the work?

One thing I noticed this year was far fewer people letting off fireworks. also when I went into The Warehouse late on Sunday they still had massive piles of them and big reductions. They still weren't shifting. Maybe it was the crappy weather over the weekend, or maybe people are just bored with it all now.

We also live closer together now...and a lot of us have pets. I am not against it tho as long as people are considerate.

Back on topic please!

My daily dose of coming in and reading the comments from a couple of people, typing a snide reply, deleting it, getting angry, writing it again and closing the browser is being disrupted.

Fireworks are no fun without rockets. It's very nanny state about them in NZ.

She went to Australia for brunch - she was literally there a few hours.

If you're going to have a wah about her "achieving nothing" or "being told to go home" -

New Zealand has virtually no chance of convincing Australia to change its mind on massive hikes to Kiwi expatriates' university fees, Foreign Minister Gerry Brownlee has conceded ahead of bilateral talks today.

In his first assignment in foreign affairs, Brownlee will meet with his Australian counterpart Julie Bishop in Sydney this morning, where he plans to discuss not only the controversial education proposals but also the broader decline of the transtasman relationship.

Asked whether there was any possibility of reversing the tertiary education proposals or getting an exemption for New Zealanders, Brownlee said: "I don't believe so.

As for the refugees, National made the original offer and got told no. How's it any different now?

Sounds like a waste of time and taxpayers money all around.

How do you know? You weren't there. Or do you just prefer to assume the worst?
