Is there meant to be a link or a video in that post? I'm not seeing anything.

It's a problem with the Twitter code or the links I chose. I'm not sure which @freitasm

No idea @gzt sorry - there's no Twitter link on those posts at all.

It should be [ twitter ]link to full tweet[ /twitter ] (without spaces).

neb: Once president, always president. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether you can use the full title or just "President X".

Columnist always use "Former President" once, followed by "Mr."

But saying Trump is a blundering coarse classless pig-ignorant boor is being too kind.

New York Times: George W. Bush calls the current G.O.P. ‘isolationist, protectionist’ and ‘nativist.’

Former President George W. Bush, whose push for immigration reform and the invasion of Iraq spurred a backlash that helped lead to the rise of Donald J. Trump, is not happy with the current state of the Republican Party.

“I would describe it as isolationist, protectionist and, to a certain extent, nativist,” Mr. Bush said in an interview on NBC’s “Today” show ....

I actually feel sorry for Liz Cheney. She's standing up for what she believes in (and what is the actual truth, not Trump's propaganda) and she's being castrated by the Republicans. Pathetic.

Note to the "GOP" - Trump doesn't care about you. Or the voters. Or anyone. Except himself.

I don't think that is actually possible in her case, unless there is more to her than we know. Did you perhaps mean castigated?

Sorry you're right Rikki - wrong word (it's a little early for me).

I just wish the GOP would look past Trump's bluster and bs and see what he's really about :(

Anyone in the GOP who doesn't know what Trump is really about, and/or believes the Big Lie, is a moron who shouldn't be allowed to hold a position of power. Anyone in the GOP who does know what Trump is about, but continues to support him and perpetuate the Big Lie for political gain, shouldn't be allowed to hold a position of power.

The vast majority of the GOP and either fools or selfish opportunistic liars.

Remember when John McCain chastised one of his supporters for disparaging Obama? Would anything like that happen today?

The Washington Post Newsletter

The 5-Minute Fix: Trump’s grip on the GOP ...

today

Former president Donald Trump’s firm grip on the GOP has been on full display in Washington this week, as one Republican who defied him looks set to be replaced on the GOP House leadership team by another who has supported him at every turn.

The GOP caucus appears ready to replace Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) as the House Republican Conference chair with Rep. Elise Stefanik (N.Y.).

Cheney has been critical of Trump’s “big lie” about the 2020 election - that the election was stolen from him - while Stefanik has been a full-throated supporter.

And Stefanik’s quest to prove her Trump bona fides to conservatives by embracing voter fraud conspiracy theories illustrates how Trumpism is a driving force in how things are playing out not only in Washington, but also across the country.

A ballot audit in Arizona, a new voting and election law in Florida, and similar laws across the country are all moving forward, backed by pro-Trump Republicans who often echo his unfounded claims of election fraud.

Stefanik went on former Trump campaign manager Stephen K. Bannon’s podcast on Thursday as part of what has become a public tour to prove her pro-Trump credentials.

Asked about an audit of 2020 election results in Arizona’s most populous county that being conducted at the behest of state Republicans, Stefanik threw her full support behind the effort.

The Arizona audit is 2021 Trumpism in a nutshell; the GOP-led Arizona Senate took ballots and equipment from Maricopa County to allow a private firm called Cyber Ninjas* to conduct an audit.

For what, exactly, is unclear, since it isn’t based on any kind of evidence. ...

* Cyber Ninjas is led by a pro-Trump conspiracy theorist who has no experience in auditing.  What a surprise!    🙄

I do remember that. Trump would run up and hug and kiss such a person now. Pathetic.

While Joe isn't fantastic, at least he tries to be a President for everyone. I imagine conversations going something like this:

(Republican): I'm a Republican, Joe

(Biden): I'll have to try just as hard to be a President to you too, then.

*

(Democrat): I'm a Democrat, Donald

(Trump): Go away, you're useless, I don't want you near me, you're nothing to me.

Probably not quite 100% right on the wording, but you get the idea.

Trump would have been a lot more insulting to the Democrat than that!

I remember Trump said in 2016 he "respects every one of Hillary's supporters". Them's his outside words... not inside words lol.

Trump would publicly call any family member garbage if they didn't spout his lies.

I did say the wording wasn't quite close, maybe I was being too polite. He would probably throw the word "loser" in there too...just like he "won" the 2020 election.
