I saw one interesting comment about the Labour website 'hack' in a newspaper comments forum.

To precis: If they cannot even run a small political party website without concerning themselves about the security of it, would you want them in charge of government IT and all it entails?

HAHA yah ain't that the truth. To be fair even some of the most die hard Labour supporters I know, right now, feel that Labour wouldn't be capable of running the country properly.

Neither the Government nor the political parties that form that Government are expected to be experts in all areas - that's why they have Government departments that deliver specialised services, are responsible for employing such experts, and provide advice to Ministers.

I've actually made no comment on the book itself. I have made comments related to how lowly I regard it's author, and about various things to do with how easy the data was to obtain, and comments related to how I feel that Labour are guilty of similar behaviour and how I believe they are unfit to lead.

I won't be reading this book any time soon, largely because I have yet to see concrete proof to it's claims and because quite frankly I have significantly more important things to do for the next 6 weeks.

I've actually made no comment on the book itself. Yes indeed; I used to be a manager in one of those departments.

To extrapolate from your comment, they should also have employed experts to run the party site if they don't know anything about how to do it properly and securely, should they not?

I presume you do not mean to genuinely suggest that (a) every person in NZ commenting on the book has read it (or even intends to) and (b) only people who have read things can comment on them at all? If that is the new rule, we should certainly see a reduction in online comments on all subjects worldwide PDQ I would think.

(Note - this is a genuine question. The text I can see looks like something anyone could knock up like a TV screenplay and I can't see any way it proves itself to be authentic)

Personally I think the onus of proof rests with the accusers in a matter like this. If it's the other way around, if I write a piece claiming David Cunliffe is, say, dying of a terminal illness and he decides to not dignify such nonsense with a reply, we can assume I am correct...!
