@joker97: Just imagine if he rewrites the constitution and becomes a dictator. The 14th amendment it shall be.

I'm not sure if you're suggesting this might happen, but I've seen other people mention this as a serious possibility - Trump effectively making himself the American Dictator. People who believe this should read the Constitution itself, specifically Article 5, which outlines how alterations may be made. There's no way one person could enact the changes to make themselves Supreme and Omnipotent Leader.

My problem with Trump is that he's a verbal "shoot first and ask questions later" kind of guy. He's fond of saying something he thinks is witty, without much thought about whether it's offensive (or even true). Here are some of my favourites:

@drumpf: You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you've got a young and beautiful piece of ass.

@drumpf: An extremely credible source has called my office and told me that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud.

@drumpf: I am being proven right about massive vaccinations - the doctors lied. Save our children and their future.

@drumpf: Laziness is a trait in the blacks. Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are little short guys that wear yamakas every day.

@drumpf: If Hillary Clinton can't satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America?

@drumpf: Our country is in serious trouble. We don't have victories anymore. We used to have victories, but we don't have them. When was the last time anybody saw us beating, let's say China in a trade deal? I beat China all the time. All the time.

@drumpf: The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive.

It's not too hard to imagine him, as president, making some wildly inappropriate comment in a leaders' forum and insulting half the countries in the room. The last thing anybody wants is to have Russia, China, North Korea, and the Muslim world (and Mexico) deciding to work together against a common American enemy. Particularly as the US will likely be facing internal strife not seen since the 60s/70s civil rights movement and Vietnam war protests, as The Don will have alienated African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, Islamic Americans, Jewish Americans and any remaining intelligent Americans...

Executive Summary:

John Oliver at 19:49 mins:

Trump is described as "... a litigious serial liar with a stream of broken business ventures and the support of a former Klan leader who he cannot decide whether or not to condemn."

After reading those quotes I'm not worried about him offending nations. I'm worried about him launching warheads at anyone (within and beyond his borders) he pleases. Think of an older under-fulfilled Kim Jong Un with more powerful toys and twisted advisors.

If Trump were to be President the rest of the world would return to doing what they did when Bush was in the White House: work around the US in alternative groupings. The EU would resume a more leading role as others looked to it for sanity and stability. Russia / China would continue their partnership (entered into when Bush was elected in 2000) and that partnership would also gather friends and perhaps even allies.  We've seen this before up to 2008.

Trump is much more aggressive and unstable than Bush, with less personal insight.

It's not the same situation as 2008.

Very good points. Instead of Trump being his usual aggressive self, and acting like an amatuer on the world stage, he wouldn't be on the world stage. Apart from harmless goings on. Effectively the US would be neutered, shuit out, or "ok you have to be here, don't talk to us much"

China might see the 4 year term as being the right time to up the ante to take over as No.1 economic power, while the current No.1 economic power is having its own citizens biting at its own ankles

I would watch the news a lot more.... Bush's inabiltity to speak would be tame compared to the Don

It is the same, just that now, it would be a lot worse, as you say

The thing is, if people actually vote for him to get the nomination, and then for his party, it's actually the American public who will hand him the keys to the White House.

Some of the comments here seem to forget that it's not Mr Trump simply manufacturing the wins and any poll leads - ordinary Americans are doing that.

So if he gets elected to be the head of one of the largest democracies in the world, you're left with one choice really. You either accept the democratic will of the people or you decide you know better than they do.

It was Winston Churchill who said that the best argument against democracy was a five minute conversation with the average voter....
