In a nutshell, there's more voters in heavily-populated urban counties than rural counties, (duh), even in the nutty American election process called the "electoral college."

NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—Reeling from its punishing settlement agreement with Dominion Voting Systems, the newly cash-strapped Fox News Channel has been forced to sell Representative Kevin McCarthy.

 

Rupert Murdoch, who acquired the Speaker of the House just two months ago, expressed sadness that new financial realities had necessitated the sale.

 

“I wish Kevin well,” the Fox owner said. “I hope whoever buys him finds him as useful as I did.”

 

Even as many in Washington expressed skepticism about the House Speaker’s market value, Murdoch’s plans to sell McCarthy faced a significant roadblock in the form of the Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

 

“Fox can't sell Congressman McCarthy,” she told reporters. “I own him.”

Donald Trump cannot block his former vice president from testifying before a grand jury investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.

The ruling helps clear the way for Mike Pence to speak under oath about the pressure Trump put him under to declare the 2020 election results invalid. While Trump could seek to further forestall that testimony by appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court, other people in the president’s orbit have testified after similar losing battles in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

The reasoning behind Wednesday’s order remains under seal; the decision was issued by a panel that included two Obama appointees and one Trump appointee.

Pence initially fought the subpoena himself, arguing that he was taking part in a congressional proceeding on Jan. 6 and therefore covered by protections for lawmakers. But when Chief U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg in D.C. ruled that the “speech or debate” clause would not cover illegal acts by the president, Pence agreed to testify.

Too true. But he won't, of course. Personally, I hope he keeps up the crazy rants. Interestingly, he hasn't actually appeared in the rape trial courtroom, relying instead on his loudmouth lawyer, a strategy that has been described as likely to have a negative impact on jurors. Chances are, once the deleterious effect of his absence becomes more obvious, I think he'll show up in person.

 

And that should be unmissable theater 😄

Failing to show up your own trial, and badgering the rape victim, and may make Trump happy, I'd guess the jury won't be happy.

That's one thing that got drilled into us again and again during legal training (how to present evidence in court), do not piss off the judge. No matter how much cleverererer you are than them and how badly they're confusing the evidence you're presenting/talking about, don't talk down to them and do not piss off the judge. They're usually annoyingly detached, no-nonsense, and insist on sticking to rules and procedures, but if you annoy them sufficiently then they can apply those rules and procedures at you a bit more than to anyone else.

 

 

PS: Do not piss off the judge.
