"What goes around ... comes around"

The NY Times  - The Fury of #MeToo Finally Comes for the Man Who Inspired It

09 May 2023

With the $5 million verdict against Donald Trump for sexual abuse and defamation in the E. Jean Carroll trial, the #MeToo movement comes full circle.

Trump’s election in 2016, after he’d been heard boasting of sexual assault on the “Access Hollywood” tape and accused of sexual assault by more than a dozen women, set off a tsunami of female fury. ...

And that fury, that intolerable sense of incredulous disgust and civic violation, was the spark that set off the #MeToo movement. ...

The #MeToo movement is why E. Jean Carroll wrote the memoir in which she revealed that Trump violated her in a Bergdorf Goodman changing room in the mid-1990s. ...

The movement is the reason that in 2022, New York passed the Adult Survivors Act, which created a window during which sexual assault survivors could sue their attackers even beyond the statute of limitations. ...

Carroll’s lawsuit was one of the first filed under the Adult Survivors Act. And because of her perseverance, Trump will, for the first time, face legal accountability for his treatment of women.

Because of the #MeToo movement, the man who started it all gets some measure of comeuppance. ...

Hold him in contempt of court or something?

Contempt of court in the US is actually pretty nasty, you can basically be detained indefinitely, anywhere, with any sorts of other people (some of whom may not be very nice) until the court decides you're no longer in contempt.

Speaking of which...

https://boingboing.net/2023/05/09/told-to-stfu-trump-immediately-violates-a-judges-orders.html

I knew it wouldn't take him long to trot out the tired old "witch hunt" line. But more importantly is there anything they can do to gag him from saying this kind of crap in public? Hold him in contempt of court or something?

Actually, the Anus Tangerenus got it wrong - yet again: It wasn't a witch hunt, cos he's not a witch. He might be a 'bitch', in the context of 'Trump is now Judge Merchan's bitch', but in wizardry terms, he'd be better labelled as a 'warlock'. Or 'sorcerer': both terms for an evil wizard. More accurately perhaps, a saucerer, seeing as he's always casting ketchup.

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

I'm no psychologist and I don't really fraternise with criminals but isn't " I didn't do it, I wasn't there" pretty much a standard response from that ilk?

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

I despair sometimes that I have to inhabit the same planet as these people.

A woman interviewed on the BBC this morning said what Trump did in his private life was up to him and it didn't affect her so she was OK with whatever he did.

I wonder what her reaction would be if he and some of his sleaze bag friends gang banged her daughter. Hey, as long as it's in private that's fine.

That's the next question I would be asking someone with such an idiotic viewpoint on life. "How about if it was your daughter?" Although given the calibre on the MAGA crowd she would probably be honoured if he did the same thing 🤢

More MAGA denial :

HuffPost - ‘That Jury's A Joke’: GOP Senators Defend Donald Trump After Sexual Battery Verdict

09 May

WASHINGTON - Republican lawmakers defended former President Donald Trump after he was found liable for sexual assault and defamation in a civil case in New York, in the latest legal bombshell that could haunt the GOP presidential front-runner in 2024.

That jury’s a joke. The whole case is a joke,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) told reporters on Tuesday. ...

It makes me want to vote for him twice,” Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) told HuffPost ...

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), another Trump ally, simply repeated Trump’s denial of the allegation. “He said he didn’t do it.” ...

Only Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), one of the Republican Party’s loudest Trump critics, reiterated that it is long past time for the GOP to turn the page on Trump.

The jury reached their decision and I hope the jury of the American people reach the same conclusion: we need a different nominee to be the nominee for president. He is in no position to be the president of the United States.”

Should this be a concern this far out from the election? Or is it way too early to be thinking "he's got it in the bag"?

Article discusses polls ahead of republican party primary internal election to select the republican candidate to run for president. No surprises there.

Another out-of-control Trump Town Hall ...  😟

The NY Times - Trump repeats litany of false claims on 2020 election, mocks sexual abuse accuser and dodges on abortion.

breaking

Former President Donald J. Trump opened his live CNN town hall meeting * in New Hampshire by continuing his false claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him, ignoring the moderator's repeated correction that in fact he lost his run for re-election. ...

Trump called the moderator, Kaitlan Collins, “a nasty person.” The audience offered no support for the CNN anchor, applauding Trump’s insult.

He then showed he was unrepentant about the deadly attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, praising the rioters. ... He said he would pardon “a large portion” of the Jan. 6 rioters now in prison. The audience cheered him on.

And a day after a jury found Mr. Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, he mocked his accuser, E. Jean Carroll, viciously. The audience laughed.

*  Trump advisers are thrilled that he got an hour on CNN with an audience that cheered his every line and laughed at his every joke.

Maybe he should have been asked some questions like these: https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/donald-trump-cnn-townhall-rcna83559

(note I haven't seen the CNN thing yet, will wait for a summary)

It's mostly the standard response for ones under the age of about eight or nine.
