These are the scum that supported Trump and thought overthrowing the government was a good idea.

It's difficult to see what the end game will be for the USA.

Even if Trump is defeated this time it seems likely to me that sooner or later a hard line right wing President will be elected with a matching Senate and Congress so the rules will be rewritten to enable the GOP to stay in power indefinitely even if there are notionally still elections. Then there is the prospect of the blue states, especially the really blue ones, trying to break way somehow.

It might mean mass migrations where those people persecuted by a Republican government, central or state, move to blue states and those against liberalism move to red.

Maybe a looser arrangement similar to the EU. The thing is it took Europe centuries and 2 wars to end up with that set up and it's principles are probably too left leaning for many in the US to accept anyway.

Thank you Trump, for keeping your promise to draining the swamp, even if it's after you tried to overthrow the government.

Trump was widely misunderstood over that statement. He actually promised to TRAIN the swamp.

Which he did: the swamp's now jammed full with the best trained alligators in American history.

Though Trump has been charged dozens of times across three cases, he could still be allowed to run for president (although he would probably not be allowed to vote).

He would also face no campaign restrictions.

Insane.   πŸ™ƒ

The NY Times - Trump Arrives at Court to Face Charges He Plotted to Overturn 2020 Election

The Trump team handed this reading material to the reporters traveling with his motorcade.

It synthesizes their theme: trying to portray the indictments as part of a sinister scheme by Democrats to cover up for President Biden and his son Hunter.

It's all about deflection and whataboutism with the Republicans these days. Yes Trump may have done something wrong, but oh, what Joe's son did was so much worse πŸ™„

They're desperate.

Also, Michael Pence might be onto something here. https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-arraignment-january-6-indictment/h_12c76d27f23c91a0668430b95cd0ce6f

The NY Times - Trump Arrives at Court to Face Charges He Plotted to Overturn 2020 Election

Trump has done everything he can do to try to make these indictments roll out on his own terms. But now he’s at the mercy of prosecutors and the judge.

Trump came into the room at 3:51 p.m., so he has now been waiting 25 minutes.  ...

The magistrate judge, Moxila A. Upadhyaya, is reading the charges and explaining the possible maximum sentences for each one.

Count 1, Section 341, conspiracy to defraud the United States, carries a maximum of five years in prison.
Counts 2 and 3, the Section 1512 charges, corrupt obstruction of a proceeding and conspiracy, carry penalties of up to 20 years.
Count 4, Section 241, conspiracy against rights, carries a term of up to 10 years.

“Not guilty,” Trump says to Counts 1 through 4.

The parties have agreed that, as a condition of release, Trump must not violate federal or state law, must appear in court as directed and must sign an appearance bond. He must not communicate with anyone he knows to be a witness, except through his lawyers or in the presence of his lawyers.

Upadhyaya is now warning Trump against violating the conditions of release and tells him to listen carefully. If he fails to comply, a warrant may be issued for his arrest, the conditions of release may be revoked, and he may be held pending trial and receive a longer sentence. He could also be charged with contempt of court.

Love this picture of Trump arriving in Washington DC for his arraignment, in a wide-body aircraft.

Trump is known for being scared of stairs, so maybe he should have just rolled down them like a ball.

New York Timess: β€˜She’s learned how to close the door’: The striking silence of Melania Trump

Cloistered behind the gates of her three homes, she sticks to a small circle – her son, her elderly parents and a handful of old friends. She visits her hairdressers, consults with her long-time stylist, and sometimes meets her husband for Friday night dinner at their clubs.
...
What she has not done, despite invitations from her husband, is appear on the campaign trail. Nor has she been at his side for any of his court appearances.
...
While she supports his presidential bid, Ms Trump has not appeared on the trail since he announced his campaign in November and did not utter a public word about his effort until May, when she endorsed him in an interview with Fox News Digital.

β€œHe has my support, and we look forward to restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength,” she [tepidly] said.

Sideface:The NY Times - Trump Arrives at Court to Face Charges He Plotted to Overturn 2020 Election

Quote from the above webpage:

“This is a very sad day for America,” Trump said, adding: “This is a persecution of a political opponent. This was never supposed to happen in America.”

He's absolutely correct, it wasn't supposed to happen in America. But it has, and it's entirely because of his own actions.
