He won enough votes, however you or the system choose to define them - which is all that matters.

It does not alter the fact that if you try and understand why he won without accepting that Americans have different values and views from New Zealanders, you'll just get frustrated.

You are wasting your breath, his mind is made up, no amount of logic is going overpower all that emotion.

It was very easy to make your mind up.

Some fools think the dirty old man, a filthy liar, misogynist, racist pig will suddenly "change his spots" and be alright - or should be forgiven for being what he is just because of the wealth he has, or the office he holds.

He won't and while the GOP might reign-in his more dangerous tendencies, I wouldn't count on that holding when what's probably inevitable happens.

As for "Trumpologists" trying to rewrite / reinterpret history in this thread, they should be continually reminded that their attack on "liberal values" is by definition supporting narrow minded, bigoted, conservative, and reactionary values which led to fascism.

Too stupid to see.

I'm not disputing that he won by the rules.  I do dispute your comment that "that "clearly over half of Americans" prefer a leader like that".

Are you big enough to admit that isn't true?

Hard to say since we do not know the opinions of those who did not vote.

If it was "hard to say" then it seemed to roll off your fingers onto the keyboard with great ease.

Biased much?

At least I admit my bias.  I believe Trump is unfit for office.

That's right - so you can only comment based on those who did vote. And your statement is still patently wrong.

If we assume your comment to mean "clearly over half of Americans who voted prefer a leader like that", that is demonstrably untrue given that HRC won the popular vote by a margin of nearly 3 million.

Trump only won the electoral college which is not a direct representation of American's choices.

So.. more accurately 'almost half' of Americans who voted chose Trump.

And at least some of those weren't really expecting him to win, it was more an anti-Hillary anti-GOP protest vote

I've just had the yearly New Year's day chat with a couple of my friends - who voted for him.

It's not voter's remorse yet, but they're certainly more muted now than when they were caught up in the hysteria and bombarding our social media with pro Trump stuff.
Now it's more like - 'fingers crossed everything will work out fine..'

Yes, but that was when Obama was elected. When he is elected, it's fair game.

I've always thought the idea of the US Govt turning on it's people causing a big civil war for which citizens needed big powerful guns to defend themselves against the Govt preposterous.... Until now.

Another step toward kleptocracy.

The GOP has limited time to rush through implementing its agenda - there's going to be a hell of a rush to get policies favouring the rich and corrupt implemented on the basis that they've got "consensus"-  before the core of the Trump fan club implodes with the realisation they were the ones who lost the presidential election.

Wall Street will be happy with this news - being given free reign to bribe congressmen is good for business.

I never have. I've watched aghast as most of Europe's people have been quietly disarmed by their governments over the past decades.

I don't care one way or the other really. He stood, they elected him. Move along now, nothing to see here. Certainly no one in the US gives a flying truck what people in a country most of them cannot find on a map which has a population less than half that of San Diego County thinks about their election decisions.

I see little to be gained in all the angst and hand-wringing other than stress and an early heart attack.

So you seriously think it is a good idea for everyone to be armed? Just like America?

And without warning the Republicans killed the Office of Congressional Ethics

And they've now backtracked on this, after disapproval from Trump.

The cynic in me thinks this was an orchestrated pan by all involved, to make his "Drain the Swamp" rhetoric seem more real.

The words backtrack and rhetoric probably achieved a surge in usage last year, to be surpassed this year
