Not all deplorables are Republicans, just most.

Here's a funny article from 2014. Washington Post

Former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards (Democrat) is back. He says he plans to run for Congress -- three years after he was released from prison, no less, where he served time for racketeering. (His wife, meanwhile, says he has not decided.)

The return of Edwards to the political mix means the return of one of the most quotable pols in recent history. Here's a sampling of what Edwards has had to say over the years:

1983: "The only way I can lose this election is if I’m caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy." (He won!)

1991: "The only thing we have in common is we’re both wizards under the sheets." (Edwards was talking about opponent David Duke, grand Wizard of the KKK.)

1991: "No, it wasn't that way. He (the author) was gone when the last one came in." (Edwards was asked about a claim he slept with six women in one night.)

2002: "I did not do anything wrong as a governor, even if you accept the verdict as it is, it doesn't indicate that." (The eternal optimist.)

2002: "I will be a model prisoner as I was a model citizen." (Not your average about-to-check-in-to-prison quote.)

2011: "I give blood for them to make Viagra." (Paging Pfizer.)

2013: "In 1997, when I saw the possibility of going to prison, I had sperm removed from me and stored. … At the time, I was married and we were talking about having a child." (Fortune favors the prepared mind, after all.)

2013: "I assume history will record some of the things I did wrong or they think I did wrong. But responsible, interested people will look at the record, and whatever they say can't erase the record." (Edwards 1, History 0.)

2014: "I'm just figuring out all the legalities and how to set up a super PAC, and then I'm going." (Or not. Coordination laws prevent him from doing such a thing as a candidate.)

There is Roger Stone,
Who seems to have been traumatized by Nixon stepping down, and stuck in 70's.

Watch Roger Stone Explain on Hot Mic How to Manipulate Trump
PUPPET MASTER
In footage obtained by The Daily Beast, Stone explains how to lie to Trump—and get him to say whatever you want.

""
The documentary recently premiered in Denmark but hasn’t been released in the United States.

In footage obtained by The Daily Beast, the Danish filmmakers who produced the film caught Stone explaining how he’s long manipulated Trump.
""
“I have a 40-year record of being able to convince the big man to do what’s in his best interest. He’s not easy to deal with. It’s complicated,” Stone said. “He resents any implication that he is handled or managed or directed.”

What will NZs conspiracists do without covid ? Harass The Warehouse for selling Disney products and anything with a rainbow apparently:

Stuff: A conspiracy influencer headed for The Warehouse to speak to the manager. She’d taken offence to something on the company’s website; a Pride month promotion, pledging to donate a portion of the proceeds from certain products to the rainbow charity InsideOUT Kōaro. The 12 products were from Disney’s “Pride” range: Clothing with a rainbow-coloured silhouette of Mickey Mouse; rainbow-coloured charging cables; rainbow-coloured pens and pencils.

The influencer nevertheless told the manager that Disney's movies are “full of hypersexualisation” and contain “subconscious programming for children”. “Are you aware they’re completely tied up with paedophilia?”

I've heard from a conspiracist that all female world leaders are actually transwomen in disguise. This is just more of the same.

De Santis's first week on the campaign trail review: https://www.politico.com/newsletters/politico-nightly/2023/06/02/grading-desantis-first-week-on-the-campaign-trail-00100051

Much has been made of his preference for existing inside a protective cocoon, limiting media availability to friendly publications - reminds me of John McCain restricting Sarah Palin's access to the press after she became his VP candidate. But De Santis can't hide from the media forever.

Speaking of "Much has been made of DeSantis preference for existing inside a protective cocoon, limiting media availability to friendly publications," Auckland's mayors seems to have the charisma of a damp towel.

NewsHub: Mayor Wayne Brown snubs major New Zealand media organisations for Auckland Council update

Newshub was not a part of the guest list for an invitation-only speech Brown gave on his budget proposal to "Auckland business and residents".

"We invited a select few journalists from media outlets who we feel were best able to convey the mayor's message," the Mayor's press secretary, Josh Van Veen told Stuff.

Newshub, TVNZ and Stuff were not invited to the announcement in downtown Auckland.

Stuff reports the updated budget proposal was emailed to Auckland councillors on Tuesday evening, who then spent time on Wednesday in confidential workshops discussing it.

Brown said only media who were "sensible" were invited to hear his plan, according to RNZ.

Stuff, TVNZ and Newshub eventually gained access to the meeting, but after Brown started giving his speech.

Like all Right Wing politicians they like to TIGHTLY control the narrative.

But also Wayne Brown has an Achilles heel and that is he is no good facing honest straight forward questions where he can not squirm his way out off. He does not have a true politicians knack of deception, obfuscation and misdirection straight of the cuff.

This is why you see more of the deputy mayor at press meetings. Watch out for her in 2025.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I reckon, Desley is one to watch. Brown is absolutely hopeless, still baffles me how he even got voted in in the first place.

Same way as Trump really.
I am magical businesman who will solve all problems in unspecified ways.
I can cut costs, get amazing productivity at snap of my fingers, turn sewer water into gold.
I also pander to general prejudices that everyone (else) is cheating you, plus political pressure points about this or that.
I'm so non-politically-correct, which includes avoiding any sort of oversight.

Oh you want specifics, you can't handle nor understand specifics, its business stuff too complicated for you.
I make it easy and magical.
A ... "Trust me Bro".

Um, Or, a whole bunch of people upon seeing the surname "Brown" on the voting paper auto-ticked it out of habit?

Its not like the mayor has any real power to do any damage? :-)

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix - Who's running for president?

today

The anti-Trump candidate: Chris Christie.

The former [New Jersey] governor was a Trump hater, then an ally, then a hater again.

He’s the most explicitly anti-Trump candidate in the race, running specifically to prosecute the case against the former president to Republican voters.

Everybody can be fooled once by a shuckster, by a TV star,” Christie has said. “But if we allow ourselves to be fooled twice, we have no one to blame but ourselves.”

Sometimes even deplorables learn stuff.  😗

The NY Times - Opinion - 'He Is Seriously Not Going to Be President.’ Our Columnists and Writers Discuss Mike Pence.

today

  • "He’s a uniter: Everyone dislikes him."

  • "He impersonated a wet dishrag for most of his term as V.P."

  • "He might be the most uninspiring candidate currently running."

  • "If he loses, he’ll admit that he lost!"
