Good point. Another point is had everyone voted, rather than 55% of eligible voters, we cannot know who would have won the popular vote or election. Cliche, but, it is what it is.

We should be discussing what Trump is doing now that he is POTUS. What he said he will do, will he? And whether its WW3 or meh, on any particular topic of his promises

thats just a stupid comment, if 40,000 people voted for clinton in 3 states instead of trump, then clinton would be president. If France scored 2 more points in 2011 then they would be Rugby world champs.

Projecting results from one electoral system to another is of questionable validity.

If POTUS was elected by a single national popular vote, behaviours would be different.

Both Trump and Hillary would have taken a different approach to campaigning; the parties might even have nominated different candidates; some voters would vote differently; independent candidates would fare differently and voter turn-out would be different.

We have significant behavioural changes in NZ with the transition from FPP to MMP.

Its not stupid. This goes to explain why it is a Republic run by an electoral college system and not a pure democracy with a majority rules. It is there to protect some states from others. FYI Clinton would be an awful president, much on par with Trump, perhaps mildly better, and definitely better from NZ's point of view. Mind you, had a I been allowed to vote I would not have voted for Trump, thats just insanity. What happened to Sanders and Rubio. Oh wait.. nevermind. 

Had it been a pure democracy where the popular vote determined who won then Trump would have campaigned differently. He may have won, he may have lost. But he is not "Stupid". He looked at how the system worked, did the numbers, got the votes and won, which is what Clintons team should have been doing, rather than putting on Katy Perry concerts. 

Keep an open mind. This has nothing to do with RWC. It goes to show that California, Illinois and New York are clearly divided by the regions which make up a lot of the rest of the country. In-fact looking at the demographics I think the states which are struggling with employment, small towns and wot-not are the ones that voted primarily for Trump. The states where employment is reasonably high voted more heavily for democrats. Trump appealed to these places, more than Clinton did. Her message was nothing exciting, more of the same policies from the Obama Administration. Trump campaigned on a "Change" not a particularly good one, but a change none the less and this appealed to his voter base.

i didnt say he was stupid , he's a tool but he's not stupid but the whole idea that if someone did something different and in hindsight this would have happened if he did it differently is just a pointless argument and it doesnt change any outcome because it has already happened, History end of story and will not change the fact he lost the popular vote.

Agree completely. I think people in America across the spectrum have lost their sense of civility.
