Fred99:
Then why did you post it in the Jacinda thread?
Because this has become the catchall for general coalition policy discussion.
MikeB4:
Domestic violence is a big problem in NZ and just to make matters worse we throw finacial hardship at the victims. This sort of measure wont stop violence but will help rehabilitation a lot.
Why should this be a employers cost? It should fall under social services and be provided by the Government IMO.
BTW I am for supporting victims and stamping out domestic violence (which should go without saying). I am not getting into the details of this, however, I have more than enough personal experience with this topic.

Not all victims fall under the umbrella of social services for a variety of reasons. Also the additional leave would provide support to enable recovery with dignity and breathing space until they are in a position to deal with matters.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Then the legislation should have focused on fixing that, rather than dropping yet another cost onto employers.
Fred99:networkn:Fred99:networkn:Lost for words.
Domestic Violence Victims are now entitled to an extra 10 days paid leave. (covered by their employer!?!?) Also they are entitled to flexible working conditions as well.
Claims for paid leave under this new legislation may also be for incidents of domestic violence relating to periods prior to the Employee's employment with their current Employer.
Here you go:
An opinion / argument on that from outside NZ where our partisan politics aren't an issue:
It has nothing to do with which party implemented it, I would be just as gob smacked if National had proposed it.
Perhaps you could control yourself long enough to realize not every critism of policy is a direct attack on Labour/Coalition because of "bias".
Fat chance.
Then why did you post it in the Jacinda thread?
gzt
It's essentially become the NZ politics thread because very few additional NZ politics threads are started to deal with particular topics in NZ politics.
How long would a thread with this particular topic last? 1 Page? Less? Hardly seems worthy of an entire topic of it's own.
If it's about a specific policy create a new thread. If it's about Jacinda Ardern, and Jacinda Ardern only, keep here.

I think the rationale is that a well supported employee will be more productive. In practice I think few people will admit to being victims, and the leave will rarely be taken.
It's still another form of leave that employers will have to track, so there will bea compliance burden and presumably a software update cost.

After unsubscribing from this thread a long while ago as it was rubbish, I thought I;d have a peek. Still the same.
Its like the olden days of Apple vs Android threads, its all about bias. If you want to argue Apple vs Android, look at the pros and cons of both and DISCUSS. Or throw that out and be biased and show it.
This is worse than the Trump thread, which an unabashed Trump bashing thread, although it is high on real facts. Here it's all bias. Bias doesnt make a discussion, period.

Just because someone is perceived to be biased, doesn't mean what they say isn't true. Plenty of what has been levelled at Labour by way of critisim is well deserved.
Just because you claim you aren't biased, doesn't mean you aren't.
