Thanks for that. Maybe we should impose restrictions of the US.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
I find it highly amusing that our inelegant Minister of Whatever publishes a letter basically calling Trump an A-hole and then squeaks 'I hope he doesn't hold it against us'.

Unlikely . We haven't done it to the Ozzys..

Heads up all of you IT business people who travel to the USA every few weeks: I just saw on the news that Trump is considering new visa rules that would end the waiver programme for New Zealand. Instead you will have to attend a personal interview each time you go, which means a separate trip to Auckland for those of you who don't already live there. I sure hope none of you are Trump enthusiasts.
I suspect if this happens you will be able to apply for a 1 year business permit. And have an interview to renew each year. My sister already has to do this.

You need politicians with a bit of backbone for that. They don't exist here.
Our politicians will wail that we need to bend to Americas will if we are to ever have any hope of a FTA with them. After more than a generation of attempting to negotiate any such deal and the last one (TPPA) being scuttled close to the finish line, you'd think the message about the reality of this ever actually happening would sink in.

We used to have politicians with back bone. David Lange comes to mind as an example.

This is bad reporting. I was reading earlier today and it's something completely different - visa for other countries, not the ones in the visa waiver programme.

“The Secretary of State shall immediately suspend the Visa Interview Waiver Program and ensure compliance with section 222 of the INA (Immigration and Nationality Act), which requires that all individuals seeking a nonimmigrant visa, undergo an in-person interview, subject to specific statutory exceptions,” the draft executive order states.
Note this is the Visa Interview Waiver Program. This applies to people that need visa renewal so that they don't need an interview. Trump wants to change that.
This is not the Visa Waiver Program. For more information take this from the US Embassy in the UK.

darylblake: I actually think the wall has become the butt of a joke. It's not really a joke. Although the wayTtrump talks about it makes it kinda funny.
In short, people living on islands don't get it. We just have a few naval patrols and boom job done.
For countries in Europe there are walls all over the boarders. It does sound somewhat funny to joke about some crazy madman who used to host a tv show and says a bunch of controversial statements somewhat regularly. But him and his team and his supporters truly believe they have an Illegal immigration problem. And they want immigration to be dealt with at the border entrances.

Fully agree. This thread has become the official anti Trump thread. I'm anti Trump as well. But behind the bigly attitude and his many faults, the wall is not a stupid idea. And for good reason. However, his marketing of that is clearly combatant. How about Mexico, we have a problem let's talk about it. Not a vote catcher promise though. But, now that he tricked, I mean got the votes, time to act like a President.
This is a Donald Trump thread, it just seems anti-Trump because there aren't a lot of nice things to say about him.

Much of the superficial "good reason" has been debunked, illegal immigration has been falling anyway, criminals will still manage to smuggle goods while US citizens are lining up to buy them, the plague of Mexican murderers and rapists are a myth, they're not fighting border skirmishes with a hostile regime.
It's nuts, popular nuts perhaps, but still nuts.

Yes - and if you read "pro Trump" news/blogs/forums, you won't find it full of informative articles and comments about good things Trump is doing (if there are any), but instead a lot of hatred for liberal views, deflecting valid criticism using whataboutism, false accusation that mainstream media is full of fake news, and links to proven fake news - aka Trumpist propaganda.
Bung:MikeB4: We used to have politicians with back bone. David Lange comes to mind as an example.
An example of what? Lange was famous for conflict avoidance as evidenced by the Lange - Douglas fiasco. In many instances he told his cabinet he would adopt a position then say the opposite.
