Interesting article  http://edition.cnn.com/2017/01/27/opinions/may-trump-special-relationship-trade-robertson-opinion/index.html

A bit over the top when it starts off as world order is wantonly thrown to the wind. Trump-like bluster, journalistic licence. But an interesting article.

Downplays the difficult situation May faces - while how other leaders perceive whatever she may or may not be able to achieve as important globally, the article ignores a big elephant in the room - the UK public.

Trump is thoroughly loathed in the UK - don't have time to look for polls- but IIRC his "approval" rating is in single digits (6%?), disapproval rating up around 70%. Apart from his thoroughly unacceptable campaign and policy statements, he also appears as the stereotypical blabbering loudmouth wealthy boastful American idiot, lacking any class or finesse or manners.

Survey conducted by the Pew Research Centre (June 2016)

"The countries surveyed by Pew were Canada, the US, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, France, Britain, Spain, Greece, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Australia, Japan, China and India.

"In the Pew survey, views of [Trump] were most harsh in Sweden, where 92 per cent of respondents viewed him negatively, while in Germany and Japan the numbers were 89 per cent and 82 per cent respectively.

"The dismal view of Mr Trump was also in evidence in Britain and France, each suggesting that 85 per cent of its citizenry does not view him as a leader capable of leading the world."

There's an article on the Herald today 'Leaks out of White House cast Donald Trump as a clueless child'.

Who woulda thunk it? undecided

And he's only a week into his presidency...

First week is over and he's done... Nothing much, except being an idiot fighting for "the largest crowd in US history to attend an inauguration" - which didn't happen.

Does anybody else think Mike Pence would make a great Grim Reaper?

In the pictures of him standing behind DT in the Oval Office he'd only need a sickle and black cape and hood and he'd be perfect.

Does anyone else think that Homer Simpson would be a much better prezi than Trump?

Trump is widely expected to issue an executive order authorising waterboarding, other 'enhanced interrogation techniques', and in his words "a hell of a lot worse".

Trump yesterday: "We have a general that has just been appointed Secretary of Defense, General James Mattis. He has stated publicly that he does not necessarily believe in torture, or waterboarding, or however you want to define it — enhanced interrogation would be a word a lot of people would like to use. I do not necessarily agree. But I would tell you that he will override, because I'm giving him that power. He is an expert."

Way to set the tone Mr President. Now we have to ask about the CIA as well, which is not led by the Secretary of Defense.

Oh I think he's achieved a great deal:

Motivated many - including those working for government organisations - to unite and resist.  Now they should have done that months ago (before the election) - perhaps the media deserves criticism for giving Trump an easy ride based on some misguided concept that a horse race should be fair, but failed to adequately point out that one of the contestants was an ass.

Formally declared war on the media.  It's a war he's not going to win.

As part of the above, motivated mainstream media to stop beating around the bush.  Rather than use gentle terms like "misspoke" - they're calling him a liar.  Because he is a liar.

Motivated individuals from within the GOP to step forward and declare that they will absolutely do whatever it takes to block Trump from getting his own way.  There is a "bottom line" on some moral/humanitarian issues over which Trump will not step.

Treated the President of Mexico with arrogant contempt.

It's fair to say that nobody's opinion amounts to a hill of beans. He IS the POTUS and barring impeachment or death, will be for at least another 4 years.

It matters not a whit whether 92% of respondents in Sweden view him negatively....

I spoke with my brother in California yesterday, who pronounces himself generally pleased with what has been done in Week 1.

His company is beginning the process of getting themselves ready to bid for the geotechnical work contracts on The Wall when they come out! Every cloud has a silver lining.

He said he has no idea why people are so keen to let Mexicans wander in and out at will - no one suggests doing the same for Canadians!

Is he tendering his price in USD or MXN?

It's possibly going to be a long wait until payday.

It kind of makes you wish that Politics was a qualified career, with career politicians and you vote for the party, not the leader. Similar to NZ. Career Politicians are not really a good idea, and I think they shoul dbe limited in the number of terms they can stay in. The Trump/ Brexit effect is what happens when the public gets so disenfranchised with the system. It is starting to occur in NZ too. People are sick of local body elections, and less that half of people not vote, which means that we end up with Mayors elected into office, that may only have 30% of eligible people voting for them.

Actually it does matter - the USA still needs the rest of the world.
If people in other countries hate him that much, then he will taint their politicians if they go along with him. Politicians above all desire power and if they cosey up to trump too mich they don't stand a chance of getting re-elected.
