It will cost me a lot less to pay for her limo than for her to stay here, so I am ok either way.

We've already established that you hate Jacinda Ardern. You don't need to spam this thread a million times with the same one-liners that say nothing else other than the fact that you dislike her.

And this is coming from a political centrist who will never vote for Labour, New Zealand First or National for that matter.

Now who is trawling posts looking for stuff to pick at ? Do us both a favour and stop responding to my posts. I have been trying hard to do the same to yours.

I don't hate Ardern (I actually hate very few people). I think she is out of her depth and her party got into power with fairy tales, wickedly overpromised, and has undelivered in a breathtaking way to date. The lack of transparency, accountability, and honesty from her and Labour when they specifically campaigned on it, not to mention 9 years sniping in opposition about the lack of transparancy and accountability, is awful.

As long as it continues, people, including me, will continue to post about it and discuss it. When they do something praise worthy, I've mentioned those things too.

Well I am not the only SMB concerned that the Governments new working group to address business confidence will do nothing for smaller businesses

I presume in the following few days JA will ban smoking....

According to this study, much worse than plastic bags.

I saw a discussion that the way to do this, is to each year increase the legal age of smoking in NZ. This allows anyone currently smoking to continue, but in theory stops new smokers...

I think the Westpac CEO summed up this the best. In short get over the election and get on with business. I was talking to my wife last night about this and her words were no business is gained by sitting in the office crying over pretzels, get out and do business, orders do wonders for confidence.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Yea definitely should take the CEO of a bank that posts huge profits no matter the prevailing sentiment's word over that of a SME owner or manager, where one risky hire can make or break a business.

I am equally skeptical of the new Business Advisory Council. Hopefully there's some representation of small business interests and it doesn't end up just being an excuse for some NZX leader's lunches on the taxpayer dime.

I was referring to the CEOs comments in general and not a relationship particularly to SMEs. His comments do scale.

It is easy to be cavilear when the decisions the Government makes might be the difference between a 900M Profit each year and a $875M profit or a rounding error on a balance sheet, and your bonus might end up a few thousand less, as opposed to being faced with laying off staff or not making a profit at all, or worse.

I think the inference that the Election result is the issue is insulting. Very little of the discussion in this thread recently has been about the election result, it's all been about the policies implemented (or not) and the decisions this Government makes, and how it affects ordinary Kiwi's.

My refernce to the WestPac CEO was to the address he made to the meeting and NOT about the pages here. His address was relevent and made sence, NZ just has to get on with business.

Well, if it's just as easy as that, then why do we even need a focus group?

Personally, I think it's a dumb thing of him to say, because it's really not just as simple as that. When people are uncertain/cautious, they hestitate. Caution is sensible approach to expenditure in times of uncertainty. Rising costs affect investment and sales.

If you turn over 1B a year, then the impact is (usually) not the difference between existing, or not).

I don't think that to date the Government has done anything so bad as to warrant fear to cause paralysis, but taking a wait and see approach doesn't seem unreasonable.

Yup. An HR settlement to a bank may not even be material. The same settlement could cripple a small business. No amount of 'just getting over it' is going to change that.

It's also worth remembering that according to official statistics, 97% of NZ businesses employ fewer than 20 employees.

I wonder what proportion of business representatives on this new Taskforce will be selected from that segment?

Easy for Westpac to say.  They are a bank.  Clipping the ticket, whatever happens.  Licence to print money.

Businesses have to attempt to estimate future conditions when they make important decisions - typically hiring people, acquiring assets, investing in market expansion and investing in development of products and people.

As I said on another thread, we are seeing lots of caution and deferral of expenditure among our customers. That translates into lower revenue projections for the coming year.

Lower revenue projections (necessarily) have a significant dampening effect on our expenditure for the coming year.  That translates into less revenue for several smaller businesses who supply us, less expenditure on sponsorship (community impact), less investment in people development, smaller budgeted salary increases.

It very much depends what business field you work in.  An IT start up with a small team has little to fear from the govt.  A company in manufacturing with a unionised workforce could potentially face significant cost increases and must plan accordingly.

Labour has all but acknowledged the confidence sapping effect of its 'fair' pay 'agreements' policy by announcing it will only seek to develop one or two agreements per year.

So the report from the Summer Camp has been completed.

In yet another demonstration of the transparency and honesty and accountability that JA and Labour campaigned on and have spoken about more than 10 times in speeches since she took power, they have opted to not release the report to the public, but far worse, they haven't released it to the Victims or their families.

Disgraceful from start to finish.

Is this what Ardern meant by "victim-lead"?

I don't think she understands the real meaning of half the words she uses. It would explain a LOT.
