You may be correct. I suspect however that she understands how words and phrases trend - and that is what she has focussed on.

This is depressing that these people are responsible for the "leadership" of our country.

Nasty. I'd still wait for the investigation before jumping to conclusions.

I've seen plenty of cases where staff get fired/leave, "restructured out" etc. by new management. Sometimes they deserve what they get, sometimes not, emotions run high, claims get made - and some of them are ludicrous.

OTOH if she is guilty of common assault, that carries a maximum penalty of 6 months jail - not enough to be expelled from parliament. I'd like to see that changed so that if convicted of any violent crime - you're automatically turfed out. These people are supposed to be leaders.

I agree, it's reasonable to wait for the investigation, just because an accusation has been made, doesn't mean anything has been done wrong.

However, so far, the coalitions investigations haven't been particularly transparent.

I am quite torn on the conviction thing. People make mistakes, people say and do things in their youth they learn from and become decent human beings.

My beliefs when I was 15, 20, 25 and 30 sometimes bear no resemblence to those I hold today. As I get older, I learn things, accept other perspectives, compromise in ways I wouldn't have thought possible at 20.

Current actions and to a lesser degree, words mean something too.

I also think lambasting someone for saying or doing something that a long time ago was more accepted than it now and punishing them by todays standards is an interesting thing to observe.

Yup. I was thinking about crimes committed when in office - not before.

The older I get, the less sure I am about basically everything.

Yeah, fair enough. I agree though I believe conviction of ANY crime whilst in Parliament should preclude you from remaining as a minister.

Which bad apples have been stewed? Curran has committed two sackable offenses (Hirshfield was sacked for her part in it, which was arguably the least serious of the two) and when asked directly if a third strike would mean she was out, the PM refused to commit to that. This latest one has not been sacked, but if the investigation finds she did indeed physically assault someone, and JA doesn't sack her outright, then JA needs to go. Don't even get me started on those who were involved in the summer camp, who were defended by JA before the investigation was completed, and who now have nice cushy jobs with Air NZ all done on the down low.

That is not what I consider "dealing" with it.

@tdgeek Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying :-)

per GV27's comment... It's a National Party issue because it was National Party information that was leaked. However it hasn't yet been established that "these are actually not leading the country. (Leaker)"

So far the only "evidence" to suggest that the leaker is in the National caucus is the leaker's say so. I'm keeping an open mind about it at this stage.
