The only thing that will help Bridges in the polls is if he gives birth - seems unlikely to happen.

I think he suffers by comparison to Ardern, who is extremely likeable. Labour leaders trying to compete with Key had the same problem.

I would have liked to see Key vs Ardern.

I hoped Bridges would Bridges would be a breathe of fresh air. He may still be, he has work to do. The general theme is that he currently just complains about Labour, takes the opposite view, without any semblance of depth. Its hois job to oppose for opposing for opposings sake isn't a great look. These two will duke it out over time, that has to be good for NZ.

NZ's new prime minister attending the Pacific forum was a very sensible move. I'm not sure why some here were suggesting because the new Australian PM can't be bothered that NZ PM should not go.

6FIEND: I don't think it's unreasonable to infer from the statement "we are hostile to their views" along with a repeated "there were no grounds to block them" that Ardern would have liked to say, "We would have blocked them if we had the opportunity"

It's an unreasonable inference. You might hope Bridges would have a similar approach to Manning - he does not (active discussion)

So Donkey-deep in deceit, she doesn't know which way is up.

She must be an embarrassment to the cabinet by now. Ardern should kick her to the kerb. There have to be standards.

It's not like this is new behaviour for her. It demonstrably goes back to 2009 - per a link previously posted.

I can't see what benefit Jacinda or labour get from keeping Curran. Personally I think the longer she stays the better, but I can't grasp why Jacinda hasn't put pressure on her to resign. Unless she's too matey with her... Unless Jacinda's worried about the ability of the other options in her caucus who would have to step up... I'm not surprised.

Just my 5 cents, Last night on the news the current cabinet and one or two ministers got shredded for only coming up with replies like "Um, err, ahh, I um, err, can um ,ah assure members um, err, ahh" when asked about personal expenses that we have paid for as the tax payer. I don't mind if National MP's do that as that party actually keeps the country turning over economically, but given labour is a charity I do not expect charity workers to be spending the charity funds on themselves personally.

Jacinda looks pasty to me and I do not feel like what she is saying is truthful or has weight behind it.

Personally, I think it's more a case of Ardern lacking the steel/spine/nerve/whatever to make the hard decisions.

She's all too happy to make populist decisions that appease her voter base and provide opportunities for photo-shoots and puff-piece interviews. (Some might argue that she's too happy to do so, often actively avoiding any official advice that might give her pause for thought) ...but she hasn't yet made a single tough call. (Especially with respect to staff discipline - under almost any other political leader, heads would have rolled a long time ago)

not surprising as she isnt a list politician , so if she sacks her and she resigns then you would have to have a by election , not what Labour want or need.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

She was just finished telling the press that Curran hadn’t done anything more than have a bad day... Curran herself knew that her position was untenable but our PM couldn’t see the problem

"Everyone has an off day," he responded.
