I am disappointed to be reading such a harsh slinging match at certain elected officials. It is close to hate speech in my book and is not called for. It seems to be that it is fine to disagree with policy or parties, but to say such things against individuals is so wrong.

What I read is that no matter what is said or done, if they are not in the Labour party then they are open to be called all sorts of things.

We all know what we read in the newspaper or on TV is just part of what is actually said and is nothing but sensationalism. But some of you use it to personally attack individuals that you do not like.

“Jet set social media” was a euphemism for the issue that was already getting plenty of coverage on #nzpol on Twitter long before Collins got involved.

I didn’t “drag” anyone into anything, I was just referring to the bandwagon that you were accusing Collins of leading.

But yeah, interesting so see that you’re happy to call for female MPs to be muzzled. I though that kind of rhetoric was reserved for alt-right misogynists

I don't think the comment for one MP to be muzzled had anything to do with this MP gender. Better not twist the comment now.

Hate speech is so distant from the last page. I read it again to check. Disagreement with policies, saying someone is not acting properly or twisted words and situations is not hate speech.

I didn't see anyone clamoring for threats to be made or actions to be taken, which would then be hate speech.

No one has posted the tweet in question but it sounds like it both identified the personal twitter account of the ballot winner and made a comment on the personal life of the ballot winner in relation to the policy. It's not surprising if troll type personalities pick it up from there and do the same thing only worse.

As the commentator in this piece quite convincingly demonstrated (and I've seen the relevant screenshots for myself, thank you very much), Judith Collins clearly used a frequently used internet meme where people reference the notion of despite there being 204 countries in this world (there are actually only 195 countries - which further suggests that this is a silly meme) and seven oceans, a person happens to chance upon the right life partner in such a vast world (which was adopted by one of the Kiwibuild couple to profess love or some kind of longing to the other on social media) to insinuate that the couple was spoiled and undeserving. When called out for missing the meme and unwisely or deliberately mis-using it to give off the impression that this was a couple who had a luxurious lifestyle but nonetheless obtained some kind of massive taxpayer benefit, Collins just doubled-down Donald Trump style.

This is despicable. And Collins' ongoing claim that the government is spending billions on Kiwibuild is equally despicable. It is using government coffers to buy "affordable" homes (I don't necessarily agree that they are affordable but that is another matter) from developers and once these homes are sold, the same pot of cash is used to buy other such homes in other Kiwibuild schemes. It is not a sunk cost, as Collins implies. Equally despicable are individuals such as yourself who gratuitously tar every journalist and member of the the media as some kind of selective sensationalist and to imply that people who choose to partake in the media's offerings and then render judgments that you do not like are merely blindly accepting selective lines fed by the media with an agenda. Sorry but this kind of BS is Donald Trump's playbook and you deserved to be ridiculed and called out for this kind of BS.

Here's my personal advice: think more; post less.

People tend to expect politicians to stay away from that kind of behavior. More so one that created cyberbullying legislation while a government minister.

The retweet was questionable and the claim Collins made to accompany the retweet had no basis in fact.

The claim was misleading to many people. I would characterise it as careless use of social media by someone I would have expected to have a finer understanding of the issues involved in doing that.

I'm not a twitter user. I understand that Collins may have also posted on facebook (their account deleted). Collins is an idiot for not understanding the reference. Actually, in my opinion, she's an idiot. <- full stop.

I do not like Collins. I do not like her use of social media in a manner similar to "trumpism", to promulgate fake news, personal attacks, selected snippets of anti-muslim anti-liberal rhetoric and dog-whistling. Criticism of policy decisions may be warranted, but the divisive sensationalist BS she's fond of isn't good for anybody, even if the "likes" she gets on social media bolster her over-inflated ego. In my opinion, NZ doesn't need her style of gutter-level politics. And when she's wrong - she never ever backs down.

Feel free to post whataboutism referencing whoever else is misbehaving - but do point out the equivalent malevolence if you can find it - as opposed to errors of judgment, mistakes, whatever.

At this stage, despite seeing herself as a future populist leader, I think and hope she's doomed. She's best ignored. Fortunately for all, she's despised by many in her own party. I'd rather have Bridges as PM if it came to that. He shows an occasional hint of self-reflective humanity.

There was an instance where Collins claimed on social media around August that France was either abolishing or loosening the laws on the age of consent for having sex. Eventually even her own leader refused to back her and said that she was reading fake news but she just won't back down.

That is pathetic. But don't tell that to Bluntj. It's all just made up.

I'm not a National voter and I doubt I ever will be. However I do know lots of people who always vote National, and they all said (bar none) that if Judith Collins was the leader, there is no way in hell they would vote for her. She is just too polarising, and when she posts silly (IMO also petty) things like this, it doesn't endear her to anyone, especially National voters. Sure, she has her supporters, I agree - but they don't number enough to make her win an election.

Simon Bridges has his issues, for sure, but at least (most of the time) he isn't a jerk.

I am not sure why you keep attacking individuals you do not like. This issue here has been about eligibility for Kiwibuild and use of public funds. In my opinion Collins has done her job as opposition well in picking massive holes in this policy. It is the job of the opposition. Look at all the flames on the immigration issue against those who opposed the Ministers decision. Who was right here?

Criticising the character (or lack thereof) of politicians who put themselves up for public office as our elected leaders and lawmakers is fair and reasonable.

Politicians who are in a position of power - launching unprovoked attacks on law-abiding private isn't OK. That's what she's done.

Collins is not, in my opinion, fit for public office. You may believe otherwise, but how dare you attempt to deny me the right to criticise her repeated foul behaviour.

Get a life.

It's sailing quite close to the wind to use canine references (muzzles are for dogs) in relation to women.

Gareth Morgan got in a lot of trouble for his porcine reference to the labour party, when he called Ardern "lipstick on a pig". In a literal reading of the sentence, he wasn't calling Ardern a pig (perhaps calling her lipstick was demeaning anyway), but people were still very uncomfortable with it.

In another post in this thread someone refers to three National MPs as Neanderthalic - surely that is in contravention of the FUG? Depending on one's politics it's either an insult the three MPs named or to Neanderthals.
