Kiwifruta:

This is one of the root tenets of Christianity...

It probably isn’t a good idea to turn this into a religious discussion, because people tend to get a bit crazy on both sides. I do find your points about biblical mistranslations interesting, though.

Ultimately, it is all about faith, whether one believes in religion or science (or both!). When you get to the realm of quantum physics and the Big Bang, science gets pretty metaphysical anyway, and the distinction between belief and evidence-based observation seems kind of blurry.

Personally, I have no objection to religious faith, but I do object very strenuously to the way it is twisted to fit particular agendas. I have particular problems with fundamentalism in all faiths, because it so quickly deteriorates into intolerance and bigotry and dogmatically justified violence towards those who think differently.

I do not happen to ascribe to any religious interpretation of reality, but I don’t have a problem with those who do. I respect everyone’s right to believe whatever they think is true, and I expect the same in return.

The way the lead up to the American elections is going, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Trump and Clinton were the only two in the running.

Many of the other potential nominees have had very little press coverage.

They sure as hell aren't. All bought and paid for by various vested interests.

I've seen the odd bit about some of the other potentials, mainly when they've thrown in the towel. I think I'll Google a list of all of them and paste it into this thread.

Kiwifruta:I believe this is why the protestant Christian nations have flourished over the past couple of hundred years.

Not according to Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond.

I wasn't referring to Eurasians colonising non-Eurasian nations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guns,_Germs,_and_Steel

The reformers who sought truth from the Bible lay the foundation for the Protestant movement.

So given that the Christian era spans two thousand years, you are actually referring to the age of reason, the industrial revolution and the modern era. Ie, a general moving away from superstition and control by the church.

Pretty sure it's not. That's the tenet of the Torah.

If you are going to quote me, please don't change my statement.
