Hipkins trying it on again by suggesting that National's tax cuts would be 'inflationary' but taking that tax revenue and vapourising it wouldn't be.
As usual, this is repeated unchallenged.

Given Labour's weakness and National's weaknesses in leadership and capability, voters may continue to support their respective coalition partners
National could then have a muscled up ACT partner, and also NZF as another aggressive partner, who will engage in fights with ACT
I feel the best option is that no one partners with Peters, so that there is a minority Government. If National wishes to pass a law they need outside support, so matters would dilute somewhat. Or deals may be done. Better than Peters having the balance of power. Better to have other parties such as Labour, ACT, Te Pati Maori, Greens acting as psuedo partners than Peters
I suppose the smart money will be investing in firearms shops and buying rentals then.

Does Act have a policy of bringing back the really cool firearms? I thought it was just the registry they opposed?
Anyway, they have their reasons. Remember when former ACT MP Deborah Coddington published a list of sex offenders? That backfired somewhat, giving like-minded individuals a list of contacts.
Having a database of firearms is a risk if it falls into the wrong hands.

You're diverting.
I'm not diverting. I'm remarking on the organisation that took out front-page hit ads on the National Party leader being quoted as if they are an uninterested party when it comes to scrutinising National policy by media, for weeks at a time. I am free to do so.
Hopefully you apply the same logic to the full page advertising the Taxpayers “not a” union has been putting out as well. Or the same “union’s” “Curia” polls that get flung around as fact, the same polling company owned by the politically neautral David Farrar.

Yeah, its not like the staff in gun shops would ever give out that information either...right ?
Customer X bought .303 , .222 , 12 gauge ...etc etc etc.
Hell have someone in the local gun club... so many ways to get information
Without a database, how do you tell if a gun is stolen, illegally imported ?
How do police know if they person/property is a risk to them, police have a right to go home at night too.
A few polls showing NZ First at 5%. The same ones also show National and Act able to govern alone, which - while I'm not exactly happy about it - I can at least take consolation in the fact that they wouldn't need Winston.
In light of the latest polls I wonder if Labour supporters will vote strategically as National supporters were reported to have done at the last election and and give their votes to National to reduce the chances of Winston/NZ First being near the reins of power.

If you have a firearms license or storage on your property (which is required for a license), this information is already in their system. I did research on related matters a few years ago as licenses were [illegally] being forced on us for other hazardous substances. The research is clear, as is view of criminologists. Licensed firearms users are not the problem.
A database will make trading firearms a little more difficult. It's not going to stop theft and may actually encourage it.

I'm tempted to do it but I'm a bit wary of Luxon not saying he wouldn't work with Peters in the first place, and then turning around and jumping into bed with him after the election.

This is the take of the NRA and their "responsible gun owners" mantra.
It doesn't work well in the USA.

Yep. Register your dog but not your tactical assault rifle.
Makes perfect sense.

Where as at the same time National keep trying to tell us that tax cuts aren't inflationary.
Which is nonsense on stilts as well.
As is stoking the housing market with foreign buyers and tax breaks for landlords and then trying to tell us that it won't make the housing crisis even worse than it already is.
