amiga500:

Trump and HRC worked very hard in the last days of the campaign both clocking up thousands of miles in their planes going to rallies in the swing states.   It is hard to believe that Trump was completely surprised by his win.    Would he have worked so hard in the last day or two if he expected to lose?    There were things like all the yard signs for Trump and Pence in the swing states and not many for HRC.    Truck drivers were reporting on this all the time.    Anecdotal evidence of a ground swell for Trump maybe, but the indicators were there unless you kept the TV on CNN!

TBH I felt when he won he was surprised. A political savvy opponent vs a showman? Never happen, but the planets aligned. Not because of him but because of unhappiness. Ironically, they still have that.

He was surprised, and I think, very unhappy. You could see it on his face...

Reality kicked in. He might not get away with everything he wanted to by being actual president, as opposed to "presidential candidate".

Look at Ross Perot and other "runner ups". Get $$billions, fade away.

Wow, he has set his lawyers on Bannon now.  Sounds like Steve has got him rattled.

He's also set his lawyers on Wolff and his publisher Henry Holt & Co.

The dotard and his sleazy lawyers don't seem to be aware of the Streisand Effect:

Bannon's book was created to bait Trump, and Trump simply does have the willpower to resist.

By suing to stop Bannon's book release, he is ensuring if sells more copies: "buy the book Trump didn't want released"

Trump is also keeping the book in the headlines longer, than it he simply ignored it.

However Trump often winds up growing like a flower in manure, while anyone around him dies.

A great example is how Trump bankrupted his Atlantic City Casinos but still came out ahead.

Legal affairs of Donald Trump

Trump loves to litigate ...

An analysis by USA Today published in June 2016 found that over the previous three decades, Trump and his businesses have been involved in 3,500 legal cases in U.S. federal courts and state courts ...

Of the 3,500 suits, Trump or one of his companies were plaintiffs in 1,900; defendants in 1,450; and bankruptcy, third party, or other in 150.

Priceless:

A chronic naysayer, Trump himself stoked constant discord with his daily after-dinner phone calls to his billionaire friends about the disloyalty and incompetence around himHis billionaire friends then shared this with their billionaire friendscreating the endless leaks which the president so furiously railed ...

How Michael Wolff stuck a shiv in Donald Trump

tl;dr version: Gossip reporting is his thing. Claims may need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Wolff recorded many of the interviews (including Bannon's).

That's why it's not being taken with a grain of salt - and why Trump is attempting to gag.

Until recordings are released and/or verified by independent third parties, then we need to be careful.

Blindly believing things that are said without fact checking is precisely how someone like Trump got elected in the first place.

How did "when they go low - we go high" work out as a tactic?

I'd rather the tapes are released, selectively, to refute denials by God-Emperor Trump and family and sycophants, and to cause maximum damage.  Because.Trump. Is. Evil.

Of course he realises this is likely to happen - hence his law-suits and threats.
