I think he refers to the expected outcomes had this happened in Iran.

Wombat1:
She pleaded guilty to all 4 charges. At least she gets to see this one out in NZ rather than Iran.
'Not a one-off': What happens to Golriz Ghahraman after guilty pleas? (newstalkzb.co.nz)
What is the possible point of that entirely gratuitous snide remark?

Right, yeah. That would be a lot less pleasant.

This matter has been dealt with in the court, Golriz is no longer in Parliament it is time for this to go out of the public arena and allow for recovery.

She has not been sentenced yet, and there will be lots of interest until this happens. Will she get the same type of sentence as anybody else would have, or will she be hit with a wet bus ticket? I will be following this through right to the end because I think its despicable what she has done to small businesses.
Mental health deserves privacy. A bunch of lookyloos do not help recovery. There are plenty of "reality tv" bollocks to get ones Jolly's.
While acknowledging the significance of mental health challenges, the law still holds her accountable for her actions, lets not forget the impact on others who may now also be suffering from their own extra mental health issues, ie the small business owners. Imagine the stress this has put on them too.
So far Golriz has done the right thing by taking accountability for her actions and I commend her on that, she falls short though on showing genuine remorse, I am still left wondering if she would have continued what she was doing if she had not been caught. If she wants to save any part of her political career I think she needs to front up to her supporters, apologize and let people know that she is struggling with her mental well-being, and what steps she has taken to get better. Just staying out of the limelight casts doubt and from other's perspectives, it can look like she is trying to hide away from it all. She does need to front up.

Lots of your interest maybe. Why so fixated on this particular matter? Is it because she was a GREEN MP? OMG, just look how the evil left has such low standards!
Your moral highhorse is reaching the stratosphere. What she did is wrong. No-one is disputing that. Even she is not disputing it, as evidenced by her guilty pleas. Neither is anyone disputing the losses suffered by retailers from shoplifting. It is a real crime with real victims and seems to be reaching epidemic proportions. It is regretable and horrible and awful, but it is not 'despicable'. Despicable is a shopkeeper being murdered by a thug for trying to protect his property. Despicable is a child being beaten to death by another thug who should be protecting it. Taking something that does not belong to you is wrong, dishonest, and unfortunate. It is not 'despicable'.
The reason there is interest in this case is because it was so unnecessary. Golriz was not lacking means. She could have easily afforded the things she took. She enjoyed a position with high social status. She had everything to lose and nothing to gain by her actions. This suggests a mental health dimension to her behaviour. That may or may not end up being reflected in whatever sentence she receives, and it may or may not serve your thirst for retribution. But fear not, there will always be another fallen woman in a pit that you can cast stones at!

Probably, yes. That's the nature of self-destructive behaviour. Some people turn to alcohol or drugs. Other people to sex/affairs. Lots of different kinds of risky things, in this case: shoplifting. It isn't rational. It never is. People always deep down know it's killing them but they still do it. Possibly they even want to get caught. They almost never stop on their own.
If she wants to save any part of her political career I think she needs to front up to her supporters,
I very much doubt saving her political career is any sort of objective at all. The vile abuse she already suffered got her to this point. Hardly likely to be any better at some point in the future now, is it?

Open your eyes, everybody is fixated on this its all over all the mainstream news sites. And it would have been no different if this came from a National or Act MP!
Rikkitic: It is not 'despicable'.
Yes it is from a MP in parliament.
Hopefully she offers full restitution.
The staff at outlets probably also went through trauma too as they had to review their actions to see if they were slack in spotting this theft, accounting for stock etc.
In some places staff might be relying on that sales bonus to get ahead.
Significant loss may impact that. Its like an 'extra big' reverse tip.
Especially after covid a physical retail outlet may be only holding its head just above water.
I did know of someone who was at center of a very unpleasant police investigation due to theft by someone else.
They had to move onto another workplace as it was just too stressful being in that environment as a reminder.
It put a big dent in their career path.
These crimes can have impacts on others.

So a victim suffering mental health issues are despicable if it is a member of parliament suffering from this, Really!

I disagree with most of her political views, however I had respected her intelligence, commitment, passion. I am sad to see her career end this way.
She has by the looks of it taken responsibility for her actions, that should be recognised too.
But your comment also has some very unpleasant undertones to it...
