Bluntj:

But who says our principles are better than theirs? People with our principles are far outweighed by principles we dont agree with...eg China, Gulf etcetc

Our general principles of 'don't hurt or kill people' are better than theirs, yes. But we have gone along with the US and the UK whose practical adherence to those principles has been questionable at best for too long. You can argue that we are too small to not pick a side, but then again they aren't principles if you drop them because they're inconvenient.

The Washington Post - Trump is not a champion of human rights. He is a clueless clown.

In Riyadh, they must be laughing at President Trump. In Pyongyang, too, and in Tehran. In Beijing and, of course, in Moscow, they must be laughing until it hurts.

They look at Washington and they don’t see a champion of freedom and human rights. They see a preening, clueless clown.

Trump’s reaction - or non-reaction - to the Saudi regime’s brutal killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi is a holiday-season gift to autocrats around the globe.

It shows them that if you just shower Trump with over-the-top flattery, feed him some geopolitical mumbo jumbo and make vague promises to perhaps buy some American-made goods in the future, he will literally let you get away with murder. ...

Trump shows, once again, he's dumb as a door.

That Thanksgiving 'message' is bloody unbelievable. He surely is certifiable? I am sure we know young children less stupid than him.

How long can the sane world tolerate this? Why aren't GOP trying to find an end to this? Why aren't all the rats looking for lifeboats?

Oh, dear, America, America....

Senator Jack Reed: Trump lying about CIA's Khashoggi report

I guess this means New Zealand can sell less milk in the US, do to surplus, and more in China, due to demand?

How Trump’s trade wars are affecting American farmers

The Trump administration's tariffs against China and Mexico have sparked retaliation by both countries on American agriculture. As a result, dairy producers have experienced a painful drop in demand, but many hope a promised $12 billion bailout will improve business in the long run. Lisa Desjardins speaks to Jim Mulhern, head of the National Milk Producers Federation, for his perspective.

The Washington Post - How the Khashoggi killing ruinously defined Trump

The Khashoggi affair confirms several fundamental truths about Trump.

The first and most obvious is that his narrow, idiosyncratic and sometimes personal interests take precedence over the defense of traditional American values and even the expectation of honest treatment by an ally.

...  despots everywhere will study this case and conclude: If you heap flattery on Trump, court him with exotic entertainment, patronize his family businesses and promise to buy American, you can get away with outrages that would once have ensured censure and sanction from Washington. ..

Representative Tulsi Gabbard says Trump is "Saudi Arabia's b1tch" in tweet

US House of Representative Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, a National Guard veteran who did two tours in the Middle East, said in a tweet that President Trump is 'Saudi Arabia's b1tch' for announcing the U.S. will stand with Saudi Arabia, regardless of any intelligence community assessment on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's involvement in the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.

'Hey @realdonaldtrump: being Saudi Arabia's bitch is not "America First,"' Gabbard tweeted. Mr. Trump has justified his stance on Saudi Arabia by saying that the country is a key partner in national security and a large buyer of U.S. weapons.

Last week, Gabbard also called for an end to any U.S. involvement in the Saudi intervention in the war in Yemen which has caused a humanitarian crisis. 'It is long overdue that we end U.S. complicity in Saudi Arabia's atrocities,' said Gabbard. 'We must end all U.S. support for Saudi Arabia's genocidal war in Yemen now.

The Washington Post - This is the only Trump syndrome we need to worry about

Critics of President Trump are regularly accused of exaggerating his corruption, his predilection toward autocratic rule and his affection for dictators.

They are told that their apprehension about the threat he poses to our constitutional democracy is not a form of vigilance but a disease: “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

“All they can do is attack the president all day long on the scandal of the day,” said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) who became an aficionado of the term.

This is the same Cruz who, in 2016, called Trump a “pathological liar,” “utterly amoral,” a “narcissist at a level I don’t think this country has ever seen” and “a serial philanderer.”

Perhaps the senator suffers from Trump Rearrangement Syndrome, a disorder common among Republicans who disown every criticism they ever offered of Trump so he’ll help them win reelection. ...

The syndrome we most need to worry about is denial - a blind refusal to face up to how much damage Trump is willing to inflict on our system of self-rule, and on our values.

As president, Trump has denied any financial interests in Saudi Arabia, but here are some statements he made during presidential campaign rallies in 2015:

  • "Saudi Arabia, I get along with all of them. They buy apartments from me. They spend $40 million, $50 million."
  • "Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much."
  • "I make a lot of money from them."
  • "They buy all sorts of my stuff. All kinds of toys from Trump. They pay me millions and hundreds of millions."
  • In 2001, the Saudi government bought an entire floor in the Trump World Tower for $4.5 million.
  • When Trump was in financial crises in 1991, he sold a yacht he bought for a reported $29 million, at a loss for $20 million to a Saudi prince.

Lemon: Trump is waging a war on reality

CNN's Don Lemon says when it comes to facts, President Trump's instinct is to "deny, deny, deny" -- even when it comes from his own administration.

Time Person of the Year voting has started. While the title is not decided by popular vote, it's a good insight into public opinion... So far:

Just off the grid on the front page, it's got to be Xi Jinping. Don't forget that Time's Person of the Year is not Time's Best Person of the Year: it's the person who had the most influence for better or worse. The fact that Trump made it in 2016 was because (in part):

for reminding America that demagoguery feeds on despair and that truth is only as powerful as the trust in those who speak it..."

I suggest everyone reads this, if only to better understand what America, and the World, is dealing with.

Best not done on a full stomach, though. Some of the pictures are revolting...
