Nikki Kaye was doing well till her encounter with cancer and she has been very quiet since then. Happy to quietly carry on with her work nowadays. Was a bit of a social butterfly before and I admired her work very much in education. She can't get the support to be the leader though.

With the current state of affairs, and the way Ross is assertive while burning his own party, it's a huge blow to Bridges/National.

So. From what I understand, JLR has resigned from National AND Parliament, is that right? And he will contest a Botany bi-election as an independent?
That at least avoids the 'crow eating' that would have needed to happen for National to invoke the Waka Jumping legislation they publicly opposed.
And if he gets in as an independent, does National get someone on the list to retain the proportion that was voted in at the last election?

Some interesting claims being made by JLR. If they are true, Bridges will need to go.

I am unsure whether I believe that Bridges said it was 4 women who accused him of harrassment then 15. That seems outlandish. If true, again, he would need to go.

JLR sounded OK for parts of his press conference, other times sounded slightly off the rails.

Either way it's a mess.

No, once the writs are issued that is it. If a list MP leaves parliament then the party gets to replace them with the next member on the list. If an electorate MP leaves then there is a bi-election to decide the replacement.

Jamie Lee Ross has announced his resignation from Parliament and the National Party. He is an electorate MP so there will need to be a bi-election which he has said he will contest as an independent

Who is the "cult personality" running New Zealand Politics?

Is that election merely bi-curious or does it swing both ways?

During his press conference Simon Bridges was adept at dodging and weaving than Mohommed Ali. He did not answer important questions leaving more questions than answers. I feel watching the press conference I was left with an impression of someone not being straight up and his future as leader must be weak and his chances of being PM very very low. National does need to put all this behind them by a leadership change.

I don't know to be honest, one thing I do know I would not like the current National Party or its Leadership running Aotearoa. I guess the folks in the Botony electorate will let their feelings be known in due course.

It was reported today that JLR is suffering from a mental breakdown caused by insinuations about his harassment of women. Clearly the guy isnt well at the moment and it seems even the media has its doubts about his credibility right now. Yet he will stand as an independent in Botany.

He is all over the place. Lots of comments dont really make sense at all.

@Bluntj where was it reported that he is suffering from a "mental breakdown"? which is an incorrect term. He was on sickleave for a while which given the intense pressure he was under it is understandable that he was experiencing stress at a level that temporarily affected his abilities to perform his duties.

If he truly isn't well, he should be left alone, though that may be difficult if he insists on running for public office. There have been suggestions that he does have a genuine nasty streak and that would also be another matter, but it might be hard to separate out from any other issues. I guess we just have to wait and see.
