Wombat1: [..] I think she needs to front up to her supporters, apologize and let people know that she is struggling with her mental well-being, and what steps she has taken to get better.

This is exactly what Ghahraman did. And - resigned from parliament. I'm not sure why you think Ghahraman is hiding. Ghahraman is no longer a member of parliament.

Sadly those facts won't prevent a few nutjobs continuing to be nutjobs but unfortunately that is a terrible fact these days and part of the stress Ghahraman was under. I think it will fade with time for the nutjobs.

I would add that what Goliz has done to get better is no business of anyone else outside the Judge, her family and medical staff.

So far Golriz has done the right thing by taking accountability for her actions and I commend her on that, she falls short though on showing genuine remorse, I am still left wondering if she would have continued what she was doing if she had not been caught.

Can't help but wonder if the four incidents highlighted in court represent all Ghahraman's offending at the retailers concerned, or indeed at other businesses which don't have the benefit of loss-prevention surveillance.

Yes I'm sure at this point she has another fifty grand worth of stolen frocks in her cupboard at home she continues to insist are all hers. 🙄

This matter has been dealt with in the court, Golriz is no longer in Parliament it is time for this to go out of the public arena and allow for recovery.

It's still clearly in the public interest and should be followed through to a conclusion. She's an MP and will continue to be of interest to the public due to her now defunct career. It's really somewhat similar to Aaron Gilmore in that regard.

Saying that there's a distinctly mastubatory element in some of the comments on her. Some people are really getting their rocks off over what's happened.

More of a general observation than anything specific with Golriz herself but there's also the tendency to claim it's 'not appropriate to comment while it's before the courts', waiting for a verdict etc. and then conveniently deciding that's the point the conversation should end because there has been a verdict. There has to be an acceptable point for the discourse to actually take place at some point.

Otherwise you end up with a permanent state of incommunicado, which isn't exactly how accountability works.

Definitely fair for the parties concerned to say that but it shouldn't stop others discussing it (and yes I am aware of the other thing this morning!)

In terms of parliamentary accountability Ghahraman is no longer a member of parliament. I'm not sure what more is being asked in this case.

She’s still a public figure and her case is of public interest. Waving your arms and saying “nothing to see here” is about as effective as shining a toy torch at cameras.

Looks like another greens member is in it regarding migrant exploitation. The party is really going through some turmoil at the moment.

Well, that is not what I said. It is still unclear to me what you require of Ghahraman.

It’s not a pretty picture of yourself you are painting.
